Atlas routes

Hey all.
I am going to try to jumpseat on Atlas out of SYD, but was wondering if there is a place to view their route structure, or where you go out of SYD? UAL is now looking quite tight, so I am hoping that this works out.

Unfortunately you can't JS on Atlas back to the US out of SYD. They fly from SYD to China and you can only JS on the flight if you have a crew visa. You'll only get that if you're actually crewing the flight.

When are you heading back to the US? Flights look fine on the 2nd/3rd.

One word of warning; the UAL station manager in SYD is a nazi and will only ever put one JS'er on a flight, regardless of how empty it is. When Air Canada did the check-in desks for UAL a few years back, not only would they load up the aircraft with JS'ers but they wouldn't charge you the departure taxes.

Im thinking of heading down there too.....since I'm with Kalitta I have a multiple entry Chinese crew visa....would that work to js back on Atlas??

Easiest thing to do is fill out the OAL request form on the Atlas website. You'll then get an email from the lady at Atlas HQ who deals with all the JS requests.

Unfortuantely, with the end of the tennis in Melbourne, it's going to be a bit of a nightmare getting out of MEL or SYD. I'm heading back to the US next week but I'm actually going to use some Zeds on QF, out of BNE.

Great to hear that the gate agent in SYD is a pain in the arse. There will be two of us trying to JS to the states. I thought that UAL had an unlimited jumpseat policy. Any idea how much a ZED is on Qantas to LAX?

UAL domestic, yep. UAL Intl, no. At least that's what it has been, unless it's changed in the last 12 months. Although, the US gate agents generally don't bother sticking to it. I've tried to reason with the UAL station manager in SYD, in the past and she wasn't having any of it. And I'm one of the locals!

A Zed on QF from BNE-LAX works out at $182.

I assuming neither of you work for a UEX carrier? Otherwise, one of you JS, the other non-rev and split the cost.

Your only other option is Hawaiian to HNL. Never had to try it but I've heard those flights are standing room only.

Or hop on Jetstar to HNL and jump from there. I've done that and with the exchange rate it worked out to less than 300 bucks. Good last minute safety.

I assume you fly for a US carrier Kenny. If you have a JS co-ordinator, have them clarify the JS situation with their UA counterpart. UA folks have always been superb in my experience JS-ing, the jobsworth in SYD may be correct but policy and accepted practice may differ!

Already done that. On my way out to LAX, I even asked the guys I was catching a ride with, to see their FOM and the 1 JS'er rule for Intl flights was in there. It used to be 1 JS'er per "Open Jumpseat" but that did change.

As I said, that was 12 months ago and I don't know if UAL has changed their policy. The SYD staff were more than pleasant but like most Aussies, they were sticking to their rule and that was that.

Sorry, no. Unless it's an ad-hoc charter, Atlas is the only US carrier that has a scheduled run.
