Numbers?

Any word on how many pilots in this initial group and what the follow-up schedule for furloughs looks like?

The rumor from the schedulers today was 20 airmen to be furloughed in the first round. That equates to all the 13 KIX B767 FO's , 2 KIX B767 Capts. and 5 ILN DC-9 FO's. Best wishes to this group and their families, you guys deserve better. I am sure that the rest of us are not far behind. :-(

But I'm sure we will get that carrot, oops, I mean severence package they keep talking about when they grace us with ham sandwich's

Really sorry guys. I'm sure I'm somewhere right behind. Honestly, though I don't know yet what it's gonna look like, really just lookin forward to gettin on with the rest of my life....sans DHL.

Just a guess, but with the rest of the initial 23 DC9's being parked by the end of the year I figure round 2 will end around DEC 31 with notices coming end of OCT. :( That makes for a DHL holiday season.

End of a dream

Well folks. I'll be amongst the first round of ILN 9 FOs to go. That makes twice now ABX has given me the boot. Despite that, I must say that I have been living the dream. I have enjoyed each and every flight and with the exception of one self-serving captain (who has bid open time nearly every day he has been off and had the nerve to complain to me that he couldn't afford to buy a Coke with his meal -ummm in the words of Mr. T..."I pitty the fool") working with this team has been a fine experience. Yes, the DC9 is old, but it has been a pleasure. I will miss it. Whenever my last flight will be, I will walk out to the parking lot with my head held high knowing that I gave it my best and conducted myself with dignity. Thanks fellow ABX pilots for making me part of the team.

Best of luck to those who remain. And...thank you very little, DHL, for destroying the company that feeds my wife and family. As for UPS, I hold no grudge. I get tired of those who complain that somehow UPS is responsible for DHL's pathetic performance. Personally, I'm happy to see an American company take down DHL. Just wish I didn't have to lose my job in the process, but I'll survive.
