Well guys after a month in the Mid East flying in Dubai I am home for a month. I will soon be going back this time working for two months on before coming back to the states for one month off.

I am the guy that based up the NetJets job to go and fly fractionals, just thought I would share a little bit of what my life has been like.
My first week there I flew very little, went out shopping for a place to live, I was told that I had a 30K US allowance for housing and utilities, housing is very expensive there, and the place that I really liked which is in downtown Dubai, right on the Gulf costed about 45K with utilities, boss said no problems, all of the bills are being sent to him. The other 3 weeks out there I was on the road for 14 days. Spent a week in Europe, slept in Paris, London, and Barcelona. Came back to Dubai for a few days, then went to Africa for three days, back to Dubai, then spent four days in Hong Kong. Every day that I was gone I was given 100 dollars US in per-Diem. At the end of the month of flying I stopped in to pick up my pay check, however I guess that thay prefer doing things in cash out there so I was handed an envelope with 12,500 dollars in it and a first class ticket back home. I was also given the choice of taking my 12,500 for my month off either then or when I get back, and because of my lack of being prepared to be paid in cash I did not want to walk out of the office with 25K so I will be paid for my month off when I get back to work.

Now for my impressions, the boss and the owner
are fantastic guys, however when you are there you are somewhat always on call, they do give you two hard days off a week, however with some of our trips going longer then a week they may give them to you on the road, the trips are great, it is like I am always on a vacation, other pilots are greats, flight attendents are gorgeous and friendly, and everyone likes to party on the road. The night life in Dubai is amazing, in the month I have been out there I have always found something to do, people are friendly and the women out there are beautiful beyond all words, and they are very, very fond of Americans. With the money I make I live very, very, very well out there. The money that I am making is not taxed till I reach 87,500 after that I will need to figure out what to do with the money. I will be getting typed on the Legacy in about 8 more months, and my pay will be raised to 18,500 per month.

Right now I am very, very happy with my decision to pass on NetJets and come to the mid east, and I would reccommend this job to anyone young, single, and looking for an adventure while making themselves wealthy. Any questions you have I would be happy to answer.

If your time and aircraft flown are accurate I am not sure that they can do much with you. Maybe in the future however.

Let me send out an email to my boss and see if he is alright with me posting his personal email address and cell number for the purpose of recruiting, if he says no I will send anyone interested a PM with contact info.

Two questions:

Will they consider an airline guy like me (airline experience, not necessarily the airline 'tude), and will they let me bring my wife to Dubai.

Yes they will pay for your wife, and they will get her a job. The whole company is made up almost entirely of former airline guys.

sounds like a $hitty job cause i dont think they have any bars in dubai.....

thats why those terrorists are so jealous of us.....cause were allowed to booze....

Dubai has more bars and nightlife then anywhere I have ever been in the states. And much better looking girls as well.

ah ok....thought that those arabs frowned on drinking....something about their screwed up religion....
The UAE is very different then the rest of the mid east.

what are competitive mins? any idea if they would be receptive to people currently in the air national guard.

SIU- I was reading on the IRS website that to be exempt from taxes (to the limit of 87 something) you had to be out of the country for 330 days, not consecutive but total. How does that square with the 1 month on 1 month off or 2 month on 1 month off schedule? I have been thinking of contract but it sounds like the tax man will be waiting. Thoughts?

Glad to hear you are enjoying the gig! Cheers- Rum

Yes, it can get a little tricky with the two on one off, being paid in cash helps a lot. I have hired a very good account and am going to be following his advice.

When you clear US customs, isn't there something to check off on the customs form if you are carrying more than 10,000 US dollars? Maybe its a different amount, but thats just off the top of my head. Or are you spending 2500 before you get to the US?

Can you say swiss bank account??
Fixes a lot of problems.

In UAE, OMRK: UAE registration, we are PT 135, with GV, and CL604: urgently seek GOOD, by that I mean GOOD, corporate guys/gals to fly VVIP. Needed NOW, salary is SO/SO. Perks are SO/SO. but we have great fun. E Mail ASAP, if interested, [email protected].

Good for you SIU. My advice, find a good banker there in Dubai (it is a major banking hub with a clean reputation) and figure out a way to legally shield as much of the income as possible from U.S. taxes. Live as cheaply as possible (while still taking advantage of the, ahem, local scenery) and bank as much as you can. Super rich folks can be "mercurial" at times and those kind of gigs can end or turn bizarre on a moment's notice. A friend tells me there is something remarkably comforting about a 7 figure off-shore account.

UK raises terror alert level in UAE

Published: 6/16/08, 7:25 AM EDT

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - The British government has raised its terror warning to the highest level for its citizens living in the United Arab Emirates, an embassy spokesman said Monday.
A statement posted on the Web site of the British Embassy in Abu Dhabi said the country has "a high threat of terrorism."
"We believe terrorists may be planning to carry out attacks in the UAE. Attacks could be indiscriminate and could happen at any time," it said.
Simon Goldsmith, a spokesman for the British Embassy in Dubai, confirmed the heightened alert and said the terror threat level for Britons in the UAE was at the highest level used by the British government.
Goldsmith would not comment on what triggered the heightened alert, but said the threat level was under constant review.
Possible targets include spots popular with expatriates and foreign travelers such as residential compounds, as well as "military, oil, transport and aviation interests," according to the warning posted on the British Embassy's Web site.

siucavflight,
I just thought you might want to see this.

siucavflight,

Thanks, but the way that I look at it is we have been attacked in the US by terrorist on 9-11, very badly. Nothing has ever happened in the UAE, so at least to this point the UAE is far more protected then the US, statistically speaking.

I don't think I'd go so far as to say "protected". Lucky maybe, but certainly not protected. Just be careful over there. Unlike here where we have 7000 miles of separation from the terrorist mother ship, in the UAE the terrorist mother ship is literally docked in your own backyard.

That is true, however as much as the the liberals might not like to hear it the best way to deal with terrorists is quickly and swiftly. In the UAE the punishment for terrorism is a swift public decapation. In the US we are now according to our supreme court allowing terrorist the same rights granted to our citizens. The quicker we wake up the better off we are. I firmly believe that I am safer from terrorist in the UAE then I am in the USA. That said I still love this country more then anywhere else, it is just sad to see it being slowly ruined by our bleeding heart liberals.

Amen to that! If the US had quicker and harsher penalties for crimes, I think the crime rate would drop significantly. I'm all for decapitating convicted terrorists. I think we should also utilize racial profiling at airports, like El Al does. Let me think about this...every single one of the 9/11 high jackers were young middle-eastern men and the ACLU thinks that it's wrong to use racial profiling to single out young middle-eastern men for additional security screening. What is wrong with this picture?!

Label ACLU as a terrorist organization, freeze their funds, and arrest their leaders - problem solved.

Hey SIU, where do I sign up? :)

SIU,

Which acft are you flying, the Legacy or 604?
Thanks
:)
