SWAdude, did I touch a nerve? What's wrong? Are you afraid that you won't be able to compete when you lose you competitive advantage? Your days of $51/bbl are numbered. Sooner or later, you will have to buy hedges at $135/bbl. Then the playing field will be level...except for wages. And that's where they'll come looking to reduce CASM.

SWA is kinda like a track star sprinting in a field of runners being chased by a bear. You don't even have to be first, just faster than the weakest. There are plenty to run out of steam long before LUV.

Well since we have at least 3-4 years of hedges at close to $51 dollars a barrel, I highly doubt the playing field is going to have the same competitors as today or at least the size they are in 3-4 years if oil stays at $120+. We should count our blessings and hope for the best.

Since when did you stop humping SWA's leg?

It is not a crutch....it is a business model...why can't people understand that. If the hedge is raised the price of tickets are raised (or other form of revenue is obtained)... it is not that hard.

Someone please explain to me the attraction of running a business where you must find "another form of revenue" to cover the losing core business.

If SWA's hedging department would just trade futures and quit flying airplanes they'd make more money. Everyone else should just quit flying airplanes.

What the hell color is the sky again?

TC,
Like I said perhaps its not too late to pull your letter.

Please cease and desist from referring to the individual known by the screen name "Tanker Clown" as "TC".

My client, AA717driver, has propri...priop...ahem, he used the abbreviation "TC" first.

If you do not cease and desist from this practice, legal action may be forthcoming. I appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Common sense. The winners and losers in the next 12 months will be determined by this metric. Make book on it.

Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?

SWA competitive advantage is not its fuel hedges it is their management that hedged the fuel. It is not by accident that they hedged fuel. They were doing better then everyone else before fuel skyrocketed that is why they had the cash to be able to hedge. If you want to level the playing field give them UAL's management.
