Skywest seat lock question

I know there is a one year seat lock at Skywest, but how does that pertain to upgrading? Here is my example:

I start initial as a Bro FO. I do it for 12 months, then I transition to the CRJ. Now if upgrades for Bro are running less than one year, say 18 months, am I seat locked in the CRJ as an FO for a year before I can upgrade as a Bro CA? So in this example, I would have to wait 24 months from DOH to upgrade to Bro CA?

Do seat lock periods start at the beginning of training for said A/C, at the end of training, or at the end of OE?

And finally, seat lock applies for CAs as well? So if I just upgraded to Bro CA, I would have to wait 12 months before transitioning to the CRJ?

That's pretty bad.

The seat lock at ASA never prevents you from transitioning to a higher rate of pay, whether it be going to the 700 as FO-FO or CA-CA, or upgrading.

This is one of those things, while not being rates of pay, definitely affecting your paycheck.
 
The seat lock begins the first day of class. New hires are not seat locked from upgrading to CA, but if you transition, you are seat locked for a year.

Ahhhhh...i'm fairly sure that 18 months is more than a year. I'll check my Farmers Almanac. Hopefully I won't have to eat crow on this one.

And at that, the quick upgrades are a thing of the past (or about to be) so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

EMB upgrades are still running junior for FAT. Most junior award this month has a pilot seniority of 84% and is likely still on first year pay.
The junior upgrades are coming from other airlines though. Skyw won't upgrade you until you have 2500 total / 1000 crew.

It was how he wrote it...18 months from his DOH, or less than 12 months from his transition to the RJ.
 
They have been known to remove the seatlock if they need people to transition and/or upgrade. They did this at least twice during my 6 years there.

That's pretty bad.

I would rather have my rights codified per a contract and be uniform for everybody rather than have it be at company discretion, but that's just me. Any seat lock provision can be waived for company convenience, it's usually written right in the language.

I've heard exactly what some of you stated, that the FAT base EMB CA goes pretty junior, less than 2 years DOH. I'm a CRJ poolie, but have the choice to go to the BRO. Seniority-wise, it'd probably be smarter, but I'm lazy and don't like doing 7 leg days :P My longterm career goals favor more jet time than prop time, so I'm leaning more towards just going straight into the RJ, but I also wanna go for the quick EMB CA upgrade. I could just be a CRJ FO until I get the EMB CA award, but then I will have 0 hours in the Bro when I jump in the left seat, and I dunno if that's wise.

What I wanted to do was be an EMB FO the first year, transition to CRJ FO, then about 6-8 months into it, upgrade to EMB CA, but it sounds like I can't do that from what you guys have posted. I need to stay in the ERJ as an FO for a year before I can do EMB CA.

What would you guys do?
 
It's all about seniority. Take the first class that you can, regardless of type of equipment. The Brasilia is a challenging airplane but fun to fly. The 8-leg days suck, but you only have to do that for a year.

If you plan on going to a major later on in your career, they aren't going to care too much if your turbine PIC time was in a CRJ or an EMB-120. Yes, it helps to have some time in a glass cockpit, but a stint in the right seat of the CRJ will get you that.

Again, take the first class you can get into.
But, that's just the way I see it.
