First of all,

They gave a promotion to the guy responsible for losing 900 mil last year in the US and screwing up the US OPERATION in a major way???? yeah.......... right.....

It might look like a promotion on paper but my observation is the guy got reassigned because he screwed up... I dunno maybe he has dirt on Appel. Maybe he is still an asset to DPWN, just not in that capacity.

Secondly,

Ok it is just two, but I think everyone would agree they are a pretty significant two..

And finally I said that was just my observation....hang loose bro.... I never said I was the word of god..

From what I can gather from the DPWN presentation, they have made their choice and know what they will be doing to restructure the US operations. One part of that was this guy Ken Allen overseeing the plan here in the US since he did the Canadian turn-around project. Now, what the heck can be taking place that they can't disclose the plan for the whole month? Makes you think it definitely involves a company outside of DHL, but who is the company? FedEx? ABX? Bax? USPS or UPS? If it were all DHL, does it make sense to keep your investors in the dark for another month? Things that make you go hmmmm (with your fingers crossed).

The man had held the position for 1yr 8mos. (http://www.freightnet.com/article/548.htm ) and he is responsible for the downfall of the operation in N. America? In a weird way, I think you guys were wishing for his/DHL downfall.

Point is DHL lost the money during his tenure, kinda like Bill Clinton getting all the credit for the economic good times during his tenure.
 
Maybe at ASTAR if you do the status quo or worse you get promoted, but in the real world it does not work that way.

If you look at my first post, all I did was state my opinions. I put out the open ended question. How does this affect Astar and ABX.. It was your buddy that went off half cocked.. Just trying to once have a civil thread between the two airlines. IT would be nice to read a post once in a while from you guys that was not attacking, mocking, or juvenile. Let me say that I know not all Astar poster's act this way, but the few that do make the others look bad.

As far as shutting my pie-hole... If I could through more than one post w/o being berated I probably would. I would have been happy to sit back and read well thought posts by you guys/gals as to what this latest news means for all of us, but when you guys make posts like this I can't help myself.

It's not a promotion, quit sugar coating it. He was replaced and put in a position so his work termination agreements, similar to those Joe and the boys just announced, don't have to be paid. This is very common in large corporations, hide the "goat" 'til the smoke clears or he announces his "retirement" or "consulting position" with some other firm.

I had heard Appel was an axe man, I guess that's true...

Soooooooo by using your logic, Uncle Joe is fully responsible (more so really) for a loss of +/- 69% of stock value and should be relegated to lav service manager?

As far as ABX and Astar go, it doesn't mean anything. Whatever they're going to do with their U.S operations, they're going to do. This is just the guy who'll be turning over the keys when they do it, is all.

If they brought in somebody from UPS or FedEX, gave them 5 or 10 billion dollars, and said "Fix it!", now that would mean something. But this guy is just filling the seat...for now.
 
Still waiting! By the way I read through quite a few of the atrticles about the new appointment. Not one of them ever used the word promotion in reference to Hanz... Could you please inform where you recieved your info from...

I belive the term often used in these cases are "gardening leave". Hans didn't manage to turn a profit, hence the board took the decision to replace him. Since it would look bad for the board to fire him outright (would be tantamount to admitting they hired the wrong guy) they relocate him to somewhere else for a while.

As for Ken, he does have a rather good track record turning both EEMEA, Canada and Asia around and showing growth and profit. As for why it'll take a month, well, give the bloke some time to get his feet under the table, speak to the key players, devise a plan and have it approved by the board. Doing all that in just one month would be quite remarkable really.

But with Ken in charge of Express and, if rumours are correct, Ferguson in charge of the Aviation side things are looking better than they have in a while.

Will be interesting to see what the "plan" will be, how it will be executed and what the outcome will be. The last two issues will take a while to become clear though, and I hope DPWN will look just a bit longer than the next quarterly ...
