Mini-Meals come to ASA

Seems like a step forward. I like it. A lot of flights back from a nap, we're hungry--especially at hotels without free breakfast.

Sounds like a decent plan.

NMM01: No mini-meals available

NeMM02: Not enough mini-meals

CAH06: Captain allergic to Hummus

FOB08: F/O barfed after eating mini-meal

FART0: Flight attendant flatulent after mini-meal

I would rather have furbuger, red snapper or something along those lines. I think that the meals are a good thing. It's something we should have had a long time ago. I am wondering how they're going to keep track of the meals.

No one's forcing anyone to eat these. If you're hungry and don't want packaged sodium, go inside and get a sandwich.

This is ASA not Emirates. You can't expect Filet Mignon on your way to Mobile, AL.

They should, but it'll never happen. The contract says you get to satisfy your nutritional needs (don't remember the exact wording), so if you need to eat, go inside and eat a meal. If there's no time, tough luck for the airline. You gotta eat you gotta eat.

A lot of things at the airline are bitchworthy. But let's not just bitch for the sake of bitching.

Folks did you read the memo? It stated 90 day trial period. You can even sample the food from 3/14 to 3/21. Then if you don't like it you can tell them you don't like it! What did you think we were going to get Outback to Go, right from the start. Personally I think its a step in the right direction. When was the last time someone in the GO did somthing for the crews? It appears that someone is steering the ship in GO.

Not saying it isn't a gesture or a step in the right direction.....but if you think you aren't going to get bitched at by a CP, gate agent, or someone else for going inside and possibly taking a delay vs. eating one of these snacks on a short turn your crazy. Or they could just be trying to make a nice gesture. Geez, guys. It is a SNACK. They have never called it a "crew meal". It's to hold you over until you get a break. If you need a real meal, then do what we've always done: inform the gate you're taking a meal break. Our contract still states "ASA will recognize crew nutritional needs during duty periods involving flight operations". NOTHING WITH THAT HAS CHANGED! This is Brad extending the same courtesy to us that SkyWest pilots already get. STOP BITCHING WHEN ASA TRIES TO DO THE RIGHT THING!!! You make us all look bad.

Hot off the press from ASA ALPA:

ASA management is testing a new program of crew snack boxes for those crews that are running late or have
the potential to depart late. Management is attempting to better the D0 performance numbers an has
identified crew nutritional needs as an item that affects our on time performance. In result, they are
providing crews with an option for ordering a crew snack box to hold a crew over until they can obtain a
regular meal and hopefully make up some time and get or keep the operation running on time.

Your ALPA reps were briefed on the crew snack program and we shared our concerns about its acceptance
and application.

Keep in mind that the crew snacks does not replace our contract language that the company acknowledges
the nutritional needs of the crews. If the crew needs a more substantial meal for their nutritional needs, it
is your contractual right to obtain a meal as per Section 12.F:

"The Company recognizes the need to address pilot nutritional needs during duty periods involving flight
operations. "

THats funny...at skywest they call em crew meals...at ASA they call em crew snacks! GUys, these things are ok at holding you over for leg, but they should not take the place of a meal.
