Maybe you should stick to posting this crap on Calforums.com. Nobody else really gives a rats a&^ about our internal union squabbles. Besides, the no vote was from who? 1 GUM rep? Let's not bore the rest of the aviation world with our dirty laundry.

Dial 1-800 458-7359...press 1...press 2...and don't have a sip of a drink in your hand when listening.

you've been warned.

Wasn't he just elected about 6 months ago? What happened to change everyone's mind?

I thought Prater was initially against age 65? Right? What happened there? Thanks.

Bye Bye--General Lee

And this has what to do with the current CAL MEC??? You seem to take a special interest in the goings on at CAL for someone so wrapped up in your own airline. What's the deal?

Just asking. Sounds like you have a lot of problems with your MEC people over there. That's too bad.

So, what is your opinion on United if we do merge with NWA?

Prater was always in favor of the change, even during his campaign. One of the many reasons that I opposed his candidacy.

Think they fit well with us should that occur. Problem with both Delta and Continental is that in order for us to take advantage of the 5th freedom rights that both NWA and UAL have, we probably will have to merge in a way where both NWA and UAL retain the name. At least neither airline has furloughs going on etc. I have my own little dream involving both Alask and Hawaiian but the deal with UAL will not be too bad long term I hope. Then again, I'm a glass half full kind of guy. Looks like this time the players are pretty serious about mergers as I've noticed a lot of union involvement at all the 4 airlines. Our MEC chairman just negotiated an agreement with COPA for preferrential interviews in the event of a merger and for retirees who want to live in Panama and fly out a few of their remaining years on our aircraft we let COPA have(that being my bitter interjection). We have a partnership accord with management which allows our top union leaders to meet with our top managers with regards to sensative information that the rank and file do not have access to. A Merger is a prime issue where our MEC will know what is going on well before the press gets information as well as us line guys.

Standing up and issuing a vote of no confidence for an MEC Chair that the pilot group has lost faith in is a good thing.

That is not correct. Ask Oscam's Razor (the NWA guy that frequents this board too). Remember, UAL bought the routes from Pan Am, and they were intially on the original paperwork, not United. Also, Canadian Airlines had Asian rights to Japan and others and they were all transferred to Air Canada when they bought them. It can all be done in a golf game looking at Mt Fuji.

A UAL merger with CAL would be good for your West Coast stuff, adding DEN and LAX/SFO back into the mix. There could be a couple problems with large hub overlap between you two----CLE and ORD, and EWR and IAD. People like to say EWR and IAD passengers are totally different, but do you need the same amount of feed to both hubs? That is the question.

Who knows what will ultimately happen, it will be interesting...

Those votes are pathetically meaningless. IIRC, the MidEx Mec did one of those a few years ago against their CEO.

It's political posturing, nothing more. Somewhere, someone HAS to feel like they are doing something useful. Remember, it's always a blame-game.

yawwnnn

There's a big difference between a vote of no confidence in a CEO and a vote of no confidence in an MEC Chair. The MEC members have no control over who holds the CEO spot. They directly control who sits in the MEC Chairman's seat. This should be interpreted as a shot across his bow. They're probably warning him to resign on his own, or they'll force him out against his will. This vote proves that they have the votes to remove him. Definitely not meaningless.

A man is not an island- and neither is any contract in this pattern bargaining world we created. CAL is one of the best run airlines out there- meaning you're now a standard- what you do affects all of us. You're lacking in a lot of areas and you don't deserve to be- especially in work rules.

You've got all of our support in any union issue that you've got.

I suspect the MEC chair will be recalled on the 29th. I could be wrong but my money is on him getting the boot. It needs to be done!

Didn't know you ever were here.

I meant the combined CAL and XJT MEC of a few years ago. And yup, I was there. The other side of the table was always where all the entertainment was. I think you left Express for AT during the hight of it.

oh yeah, War Eagle!

CLE is not a large hub, not even close (unless you count the EMB-145). The NY metro area is the biggest, by far, O/D area in the US, there is no comparison between EWR and IAD
