International Travel on Pink Registration Slip

Recently, a salesman from Bombardier told us that a Global Express received approval (via wired telegram?) to operate in/out of the country on a pink slip.

Pink Slip flying

All it takes is a "flying wire" from FAA OKC Aircraft Registration and it can be done. Not a big problem. More info needed, email me.

You're half right. I'd be more concerned with the country you are flying to. They may not accept a pink slip. As of 2006, I believe Mexico would not. Check with the destination country first.

Mexico will accept a fly wire ... at least they did in 2004 when we did it in our new airplane.

Get the Flywire to be safe

In EU, ME, RF etc, the pink slip is toilet paper, get the official temp doc the fly wire, and keep several copies on board.

There are three types of registration for an aircraft.

The white copy, which is the permanent copy.

The pink copy, which is a temporary registration. This is not valid for flights outside of the US. (You even have to be careful from NY to Florida with the water route. No more than 12 miles from land.)

Fly Wire (Temporary Certificate of Aircraft Registration) which is not the same as a temporary registration. This is valid for international flights since it is a form of registration certificate.

A couple of years ago I went to the Bahamas with a pink slip. The United States Customs is where you can get slammed. The guy asked for the registration and pointed that stamped across the slip in big black letters is "not for international flight". I used to be in law enforcement and gave him the secret handshake and got us out of a $5,000 fine. He told me the handshake is good one time.

I don't recommend going out of country with a pink slip.

I am facing this problem right now going to Canada at the end of the month. We have applied for a Fly-Wire. Was advised that applying for the Fly-Wire CAN actually speed up the delivery of your registration. I'll let you know how it turns out.
