I know that many 50y.o. + pilots took an early retirement. Any guesses as to how age 65 will affect movement and hiring at DAL?

More than 2000 guys took early retirement at Delta pre-BK. Now we have 1000 guys total (out of 7000) over 50 years old, with 500 of them over 55 years old. That does mean stagnation, down the road. Right now we are hiring because of growth, mainly on the INTL side. The last 50 newhires last month all went to the INTL 757/767 in NYC forexample. Not everyone will get that seat, but it just shows we are lacking in crews for that INTL expansion we have planned for this upcoming Summer. We are still getting more AA 757ERs (17 total), 10 737-700s, and 8 777LRs in the next couple years, with rumors of more MD90s and possibly a lot more 777LRs (we are getting our second 777 sim this summer for example). Some of that talk has stopped as of late (MD90 rumors), because we are waiting to find out what may or may not happen with the merger hype, but none of that is for certain anyway. With INTL expansion coming in the near future, we will continue to hire and people will continue to move up to larger equipment, allowing newhires the chance to move to larger equipment early on during their DL careers. A merger with the "right" partner won't necessarily stop expansion or seat progression. A merger with the wrong partner could.

Someone else posted these retirement numbers for Delta last month (these are pre-age 65 numbers). Disregard the last number in each line - I think it was his projected senority number. As you can see, not a lot of retirements were scheduled for the next 5 years, although it does increase in 2010.

But aren't you the same person as General Lee, 737Pylt, etc?

All of those screen names post on identical days and are never logged in together.

If so, it's messed up that you are responding to yourself with different personalities. You may want to look into Prozac or something.

The plan was to hire 600 in 2008, with 65 that will be reduced to 500 for 2008. This info comes directly from HR and it was told to me in person today. These numbers could potentially increase if we end up taking the md90's from China.

I thought I was the only one. Now, he's going to log in with his lap top and PC or open 2 windows up and log in. He'll keep this up for a couple of days and then do his normal thing.

By the way 406, aren't you Pocono?

Is it just me, or does anyone else see the gayness in the general's new signature line?

interesting. We didn't have 100 guys retiring in 08, so how could age 65 cut the hiring by 100?

If they keep shaving #s I'll start to worry. Oil...."merger mania"?? Im sure someone on here will have the answer....seems folks love Delta. And SWA and JB. No one ever bashes UPS and FDX and they do alright. To quote Joe Dirt - Dang.

General - just put Jmoney on your ignore list. He has nothing useful or positive to contribute. Now he thinks you and 737pylt are the same.
