Well, I guess you work there, but....

Commuting on them for 7 years now. It can depend on the station, LAX and IAH in particular. In fact, IAH had a little sign on the counter that said if you were not checked in 20 prior, forget it. In fact, they always want you to go to the ticket counter to check in. LAX, I can check in at the gate.

And yes, I am always polite and respectful, try not to bug the gate agent if they are too busy, and ALWAYS ask how they are doing before I ask them if I could request a JS pass.

They ALWAYS appreciate it if you list before hand. Call their res line, just tell them that you are an offline non-rev. When they ask who you work for, just give them your airline's 2 letter code.

With that being said, I HAVE always been treated great by F9 crews, and only experienced less than friendly service a handful of times by the gate agents. The 5 places I've used them to commute to, only LAX and IAH could be a little more work than should be required.

LAX station management is much better at speaking corporatese than operating an airline. There's lies the root cause of any issues.

I see, thanks.

WTF is IAH's problem? Like I said, most of the agents are great, but there were 1 or 2 down there that definitely were not pilot friendly.

More than one occasion I saw other pilots get denied a JS as well as a rather undeserved tongue lashing at the gate for not following their specific rules. Primarily NOT being listed and NOT being checked in 20 prior.

I use them out of DEN sometimes, I do list, but a few times I took them becaue they were delayed and did not listed. once the agent sees me running and says " if your willing to run I'm willing to give you a seat" that's about 30 seconds before they closed the doors. real nice guys all around.

Not exactly... Yes it depends on the city. In MCO they want you to check in at the main ticket counter . (No jumping to the front of the line either.) Even if you come off of your flight and want to commute on them, you will 9 times out of 10 have to leave security, check in and then go back through security and to the gate. Other than that, one of my top 3 airlines to catch a ride on.

None of this applies in DEN however. They rock there.

Q/F

Quiet...I live and commute out of MCO, and you are correct. The issue there is that the gate isn't equipped with CASS. Until it is, unfortunately you have to be processed at the ticket counter. I spoke with our station manager there today before my commute up to denver and she informed me that we should have final approval and install of cass at the gate in orlando by the end of Jan. Apparently when we switched from gate 86 t0 91 we had to refile all paperwork with the GOAA (orlando airport).

That seems to be an alarming trend. So often the airline operation is hamstrung by the city requirements. LAS, for example. From what I understand (and don't hold me to anyting) the security lines there are a disaster because the city is responsible right up to the point of screening. The "employee line" is also the "first class passenger line" and the "handicapped passenger line". Oh, and no jumping to the front of the line......EVER! Thank you city of Las Vegas!

It definately depends on who you get at the gate as to how you are treated. DEN is no exception, i was denied boarding once there because i showed up 10 minutes before scheduled departure. Although i was listed and had a good reason for showing late, my passport was in my jacket that another crew member had just mistaken as his own, she didn't even look at me when i asked if i could get on-board, just shook her head and said i was too late and that the flight was closed...although half the pax were still in the boarding area waiting to get down the bridge. Nice to know your own airline will not even let you on if you show up 10 minutes before departure...oh well, the nice folks over at UA had a departure that left 15 minutes later, and guess what, showing up 5 minutes before departure there had no effect on how i was treated, they let me on and i went about my business. I was still nice to our own agent and told her thank you and all that jazz before i headed over to UA, just to try to keep the two work groups working together...you do what ya gotta do.

Whats the Frontier NR #? Will they tell you how many open seats? (Don't JS often, are there one or two JSs on the Airbus?) Anyone had any probs checking in at the gate vs. ticket counter in STL?

It's not a NR number, just the regular RES number;

18004321359

I believe that RES agents at every airline are not allowed to give out actual numbers. They will tell you either green (good), yellow (so-so), or red (crap).

Sometimes they will say, "yeah, it's green, looks good" I'll follow up with, "how green does it look?"
If they agent is really nice, they will get you a better indicator. Something like, showing more than X seats open with X non-revs. So they are not giving out the ACTUAL numbers, just a better idea.

BTW, their RES agents are always friendly as well.

The Airbus has 2 JS's available. And like I said, the crews are ALWAYS very helpful. If it's a total cluster in the back and no overhead space for your bag, and man soup up front because there is two JS'ers, they go out of their way to make sure you don't have to check your bag. At least thats been my experience.

I have no experience with STL, but I would just do the ticket counter thing to be safe. If tell you to go to the gate, then go. I'd rather do that, then have to go back outside security, wait in line, then go back through security and possibly miss the ride.
