I was just offered I job with US Airways. Are there any new hires that can share some info on life at
US Airways outside of the East vs. West contract talks?
 
Congrats. You're in the first wave of hiring in a long time, so there's really not much info yet. If you come West, you'll be on our contract and visa versa on the East. Reserve is much better on the West, but movement off reserve is quicker out East. Most likely, you'll be assigned where needed, so choosing won't be part of that equation.

There is a whole lot of foot stomping coming from both sides at the moment. It will probably be messy here for another couple years, but looking forward 5 and 10 yrs it looks fine barring no major industry wide reduction in capacity.
 
Two of the West poolies that were the "first" newhires on the property are in PHL on the 190, and the last bid award shows they will be blockholders. The rest of them are reserve. But that is pretty good getting on and not having to do any reserve... Of course any other equipment other than the 190, you will be on reserve.

I'm not sure how they will determine which side of the Mississippi you will work, but if you go east, you will bid on available aircraft positions according to your class seniority. My advice would be to take the 190. First year pay is better than any aircraft (East or West) and it only carries a 12 month seat-lock. After that, you can move to the bigger aircraft that will pay much better than the 190 at that point. If you get the 737 or airbus, the first year pay is lower than the 190 and the seat-lock is 18 months...

What sort of background did you come from? A regional? a US Express regional? PIC turbine? Military? Internal recs? Thanks
 
I flew with the regionals for two years before going into corporate/charter where I've been for almost two years. I've got two types, but less than 100 hours tubine PIC. I've done a few trips across the pond, but that's the only significant thing on the resume. I received a call for the interview about 4 weeks after the Sep. ARINC job fair. I had one internal recommendation after I got the interview.

Welcome aboard. Don't believe all the crazzap you hear from the disgruntled crowd. I have been near the bottom of this list for 3 years (same class as PRate) and love the place. I see a bright future somewhere down the road as well. Work rules are real good even for reserves; I could write a book on that by now. Hopefully, we can become one big happy family and get a contract to bring compensation up to par as well. Enjoy training.

Nice to a see a positive post about Airways for a change, thanks. I actually just interviewed with Usairways this morning in CLT. I actually had a good time doing it, very nice people on both the the HR and pilot side of things.
Hoping the the phone rings soon.....

Last class that started i think this week all new hires got PHL 190 and returning j4j guys got AB 319/320 at LGA. Company says that's where they are short now.
 
JJDriver -- CONGRATS. Despite all our our EAST/WEST problems, it is a good company. Not top of the line right now, but one day we can get there. Time heals all and the same thing will happen here. Assuming no industry collapse, it will slowly get better. As folks with baggage leave, the new blood will carry us forward. Congrats and welcome aboard. I'm counting on you to do your part to make the new US Airways a new company indeed.

Keep trying the HR people in CLT said the site was a little buggy...... I could only load a resume into it in the most basic note pad type text form. everything else would get kicked back at me.

I hear that 80% of the seniority list of the combined carriers are over the age of 51. So if no age change you will be in the top 20% within 10 yrs. Obviously, Add 5 yrs to that if an age change.
 
Congrats Captz. Glad to have more positive people on board. When pay and movement are stagnant (yes-I realize stagnant movement is an oxymoron) you often see the other side of people come out. Hopefully, with a little bit of movement people will lighten up and focus on pay which I think will be headed in the right direction soon. Good luck in training.
 
I can say that the west 737 group is a great bunch. I've had a few five leg days that just flew by because of the great people I was working with. Things though are a changin' and I don't know how things will turn out. Just last week I was verbaly harrased by an East crew while trying to get some food in Phoenix. Of course I just smiled and had pleasant responses(seriously I was nice). The joy of kicking the cr@p out of them wouldn't have been worth losing my job. It sure would have been fun though. Best of luck and if you're not an @sshole I hope you get the West side.

Thanks for the helpful response. I will give it a shot over the weekend. I am curious to know what the competative mins are. I have 4K TT, Type ratings, 3100 PIC, 26 yrs old. Do you think only having 135 time will be ok, or are they really looking for 121 PIC.

Hope to see you all there! Got the offer 2+ weeks ago. Drug test completed and received FAA PRIA notification in mail yesterday.

Waiting for the official class date. Hoping for January and seeing you guys there.

I guess we'll be learning the 190 together. My wife just called and my FedEx package came today. I start in Dec, as well... Just in time for OE in PHL in Feb/March... Yahoooooooo........ :nuts:

I would take a guess that eventually some of the 190s will come out west. If not, one day the pilot group will be one and the posibility to bid out west will be there. I've heard the 190 is a good airplane, enjoy.

From what I understand there's a few in the school house that'll be on the west. Our last bid had several posistions for PHX. Thank God, finally.

the only guys that went out west were east furlough recalls and one west coming back from mil leave....all new hires were phl 190
 
Ah, that's right. Cool, either way it's fine by me as long as we have some new bodies out this way. :p
