AirTran flight grounded by bird strike​
A bird struck an AirTran flight just after takeoff from Philadelphia on Saturday, cracking the windshield and slightly injuring the co-pilot, The Associated Press reports. The jet returned to Philadelphia after the incident. As for the pilot, his injuries were "minor facial cuts from broken glass," AP reports. The incident happened about 10 minutes after the Boeing 737 took off with 143 people onboard. No one was else was injured.
 
They say he's OK; a bit scratched up with superficial cuts to his face but he hunt in like a trooper and kept the CRM going until they had it on the deck.

Kudos for him, and job well done!
 
What about the bird...is he O.K.? If not, will the pilots be sued by PETA for animal abuse? Rediculous you ask???? This is the year 2007 in the USA...is it really that far fetched to think there could be a lawsuit in the works?

I know in Florida (EYW) there is a lot of paperwork to fill out regarding bird strikes due to some endangered species in the area that may fly into you.
 
I thought PETA was the acronym for People Eat Tasty Animals
 
The article said 10 minutes into the flight. Is that correct? If so it must have been a strike around 250+ kts.

To add insult to injury, he makes AirTran FO pay. About 50% of what the uninjured capt. makes.
Why couldn't it have hit one of our scabs?

He may not work on the car, but the PI will be ready as soon as leaves the hospital.

Was that the company calling to see how he was doing or when he'd be checking out?
 
Flew down F.P. yesterday and he showed me some of the pics he got from that 737. Looked like both front windshields were smashed up pretty good. Can't imagine how they brought it back down safely. You couldn't see anything!
He also said it happened at 600 ft. right after t/o.

No joke. My Dad hit some kind of Condor in Africa years ago. It came through the DC-3 windhield and nearly killed the f/o. My Dad actually thought the f/o was dead, at first.
The African country fined my Dad $150 bucks for killing a protected species.

BTW, didn't the 737 go through the frozen chicken cannon test?

Glad it wasn't you that was injured. There would be multiple grievances and lawsuits filed by now. Let's see- Boeing, the airport, Airtran...where to start

I cannot find any evidence that there are Condors in Africa. Just vultures. Condors seem to be limited to the Western Hemisphere. I think your Dad was had by the Africans. Vultures surely are not a protected species. :)

Hell, it was over 25 years ago and I wasn't there. I don't know what it was except that it was a huge fricken' bird that could have brought the plane down and the country fined him a 150 bucks.
It was for littering for all I know...:rolleyes:
