Delta Air Lines Builds On Successful Expansion At New York-JFK With 14 New International Routes
Wednesday September 26, 10:30 am ET
Summer 2008 schedule offers convenient connections to Europe, Africa and Middle East for 80 percent of U.S. flyers, including multiple routes not served by any other major U.S. airline Expansion enabled by redesigned JFK schedule that aims to reduce congestion, rush hour delays
NEW YORK, Sept. 26, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL - News) -- the largest global carrier at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport -- is introducing a redesigned schedule for summer 2008 that accommodates growing customer demand at JFK while taking steps to reduce airport congestion and delays.
Delta plans to offer increased choice on 14 new international routes* -- including nine destinations not served by any other U.S. major airline from JFK -- and will offer customers improved on-time reliability by reducing the number of Delta flights operating during peak hours.
The efficiencies of the new schedule will allow Delta to offer customers a total of 204 daily departures to 93 destinations from New York-JFK by June 2008, including: -- Nine new trans-Atlantic routes with nonstop service between JFK and: Tel Aviv, Israel (effective March 10)*; Edinburgh, Scotland (effective May 1); Dakar, Senegal (effective June 2)*; Nairobi, Kenya (via Dakar) (effective June 2)*; Cairo, Egypt (effective June 4) *; Malaga, Spain (effective June 4)*; Amman, Jordan (effective June 5) *; and Lagos, Nigeria (effective June 9)*; and, subject to DOT approval, Cape Town, South Africa (via Dakar) (effective June 3)*. In conjunction with today's announcement, Delta is applying to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for authority to add the only direct service operated by a U.S. carrier to Cape Town. -- Five new Latin America routes with nonstop service between JFK and Panama City, Panama (effective Dec. 13); Guatemala City, Guatemala (effective Dec. 14); Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago (effective Dec. 20)*; San Jose, Costa Rica (effective Feb. 15)*; and Liberia, Costa Rica (effective Feb. 16)*.

awesome news!

There are several destinations there that are bigger S-holes than Lubbock!

And many that are twenty times better. Yeah, a trip to Lagos might suk, but a Malaga, Spain 3 day the next week might really be nice. Cape Town would also be very nice I suppose.

Better take you bullet proof vest for Lagos...that place is a hole

You'll be treated like royalty in Lagos. Bullet proof vehicle, armed guards, gated castle (compound), etc... There is a reason the 76 ER is being awarded to new hires. Lots of pilots won't bid it until they can hold a better line.

Africa three times in a month or LBB three times a day? I'd give Africa a try.

I heard a DL pilot is in bad shape with ecoli illness he got from one of those garden spot layovers .. Dakar I think. Just curious GL, why don't they give you meds for those places like we got in the military? I've been to Dakar and we had to take some anti-malaria horse pills. Oh well, I guess UHC will take care of everything.

At least we only need over the counter stuff in LBB.

Oh, and you're bragging about Cairo?? Ever been there? Delta goes to some nice international cities. Cairo will not be one of them.

If the General could move his First Officer seat back to about row 15 so everyone could watch him perform his duties I think he would be much happier.

Having spent some time on a beach in Malaga, Spain... Take the three day to Malaga!

Capetown would be great but with the wife and kids not an a hole like you! By the way did you happen to tune inot cnbc today, your cfo was on talking bragging about the fact that evryone but the pilots kept their pension. how does that make you feel, and dont use that BS about how much you got from your settlement. I hope you can sleep well at night knowing that you sold out, you have guys pushing 60 that are having to retire with 300,000 when they should have left with 2 million. You are an !diot.Hvae fun in cairo.
BTW I am going to save this post on my computer so when delta goes bk a second time i will be able to shut you up.

Wow, you sound like the a hole. Yeah, our CFO may have been stating that everyone else kept their pensions, but we also got something out of the deal. We got lots of cash (I got $280,000 before taxes and 401K distribution for 06 and 07, plus an extra $60K for the pension dump), and a DC plan in our name, which was a lot better than a "promise" of a pension. If things go to heck again in the future, for any airline that has a pension, it is gone. We have a great plan at 11%, and that will increase in the future like United's plan which is 16% (16% of the monthly take is matched by United into the DC fund---each month).

And, you really are the idiot. I will have fun flying to exotic places, and you will cry and complain like a loser. Feel free to keep copy of any of my posts, maybe you will learn something.

Like Atlanta?

Never been there, eh? Wow, Oakland, the Chicago Midway area, Baltimore, and Houston are sooo much better.

Once the novelty of flying heavies overseas wears off, you realize that 99.99% of Africa is really and truly the 3rd world.

I've been to Lagos, I've been to Lubbock. I'll take Lubbock any day.

Who cares what you got what about the guy that retired or is about to retire that lost millions and will only get a couple hundred thousand what about him. You guys sold the retired pilots out if you can't admit it thats fine. Have fun in Cairo.

The General still refuses to tell the world how much extra flying he was picking up while his fellow pilots were on furlough! He also tries to make it look like BK was a good thing....He is confused.

Bravodude,
I think you have misplaced sympathies.... That same retired pilot had about a 2 year period prior to BK where they could have left and took 1/2 of their lump sum, and many did. Only the few who didn't want to admit the BK was coming stayed around to reciece 300K vice their full lump sums. They still receive their PBG benefits albiet at a much reduced benefit. In addition, the already retired received a 800 million claim to distribute amongst themselves for loss of benefits to the DB plan. I think when you compare the losses to the United clan in BK with those to Delta, there truly is no comparison that Delta pilots, both active and retired made out much better then their UAL peers.

Beyond all that, this whole thread sounds like something my 1st grader and his friends have debates about, my layover is better than yours, etc. Sounds very childish!

I love it when the LCC's employees criticize the legacies for losing their DB plans when the LCC's never offered them in the first place. Or that legacies retired pilots lost their free medical care when the LCC's never paid for retired medical care, ever. Or when LCC's pilots have lobbied for years to fly till they die, or 65 at least, and now will complain that after decades of resistance, ALPA finally concedes that erosion of the profession.

Cheers

There are only so many diseases you can catch in Lubbock.

"I will have fun flying to exotic places, and you will cry and complain like a loser"?

Herr General, did you actually compose that gem? I'll just bow out of this argument. I can see it's way above me.

General, try this one when you get in a tight spot, "I know you are, but what am I." Go ahead and use it on me if you want.

Have you been to Malaga? It's a European tourist trap. Talk abotu a Sht-Hole... now drive down the coast to Seville or Tarifa and you'll see some beauty. But Malaga sucks.

Stirring the pot can be fun, but you sound like a complete idiot. You bring nothing to the table except slams that are not backed up by anything but your jealousy. We are still hiring, if you are wondering, which I think you are. You probably won't get past the psych though.

So, what you are saying, is that someone can actually get to Seville or Tarifa via Malaga? That sounds like a good thing, right? If Seville can't support a daily nonstop from JFK, then it probably won't get the service. But, if you can rent a car and drive to those places you like, then service to Malaga is still a good thing.
