Recently flew into MIA and saw a row of beautiful green DC-10s and a DC-8 over at the cargo ramp. I know that Arrow has had its ups and downs lately and I believe they furloughed some pilots a year ago or so.

What is the news about Arrow? Any further furloughs? Any planned hiring? How's the QOL/schedules on the DC10? QOL on the DC-8?

I have always admired the DC-10 - I think it would be a great aircraft to fly. Although I think Gemini is planning to ground its DC-10 fleet - maybe Arrow will pick up some more on the cheap...

Any opinions or current impressions of Arrow and flying the big, green DC-10 there?

Didn't Arrow merge with Fine Air a few years ago? I remember seeing those Diesel 8s chuggin' along out of MIA years ago. I like the new green paint scheme on those DC10s.

Yeah, if you want to fly the 10 and not get treated like a seasonal migrant worker, go to Omni or Gemini.

Exactly! And both are hiring right now!
P.S. Don't pick your next airline by the paint job!

"Beautiful green" aircraft??!! Don't let the glossy, painted exterior fool you. If you go to Arrow and an aircraft goes in for a heavy check, you (being at the bottom of the seniority list) WILL be furloughed. Might only be for a few weeks, or a few months, but that is their modus operandi. Sure, it is nice to have time off, but wouldn't you rather be the one to decide when you want an unplanned/unpaid vacation instead of slick Willy?

Slick Willy is right. In typical 36th street fashion, management at Arrow is better suited to used car sales than running an airline.

Arrow Air, Centurian/Cialis have got to be the worst of bottom feeding wide bodies. Not only do they furlough like water. But they seldom pay on time or in the correct amounts, scheduling is a mess and they treat you like dirt.

What's up with that white A310? Is Arrow going to start using those?

It is probably another carrier they hired to fly Arrow freight, while they furlough their own pilots.

If you want to fly the DC-10 it appears World Airways will be hiring 46 more pilots in the near future. The hiring will be in the right seat of the DC-10 more than likely.

And what's up with "Arrow Equador" (Heard on the airwaves the other day...)? Another attempt to lower the bar? Is Arrow Panama now being to expensive to crew?

Wow! When I worked there, they insisted that Arrow Panama would not take our freight. Slick Willy also insisted that Arrow Ecuador only existed on paper, to allow us easier operations into and out of Quito and Guayaquil. They were never able to get Arrow Panama approval to fly anywhere but Panama to Lima. The sad thing was the Panamanian government provided better work rules for their pilots than a union contract would. So, now Arrow Ecuador is a reality, huh?

What they DID do was to outsource Arrow-labeled freight to Focus, and then proceed to furlough Arrow pilots and engineers in clear violation of the scope clause.
