Does Emirates hire women pilots?

I know someone that showed up for the interview only to be met by a surprised interview staff:

"you're a woman?"

Only if your down with the Burqua. I hear its a Burqua with little wings. They can't touch the controls only bring coffee to the captain.

They cover the head, but not the face...no burqah required.

The first to hire women in the cockpit in that region is Prince Waleed. Don't count on seeing too many others.

It's actually a shock to hear a female voice on the radio, which does occasionally happen there.

When women start driving cars on their own, expect to see them in the cockpit. Until then...

Yes, Emirates hires female pilots. This is a relatively new development and happened only because the first one had to be a UAE national. She is a cadet pilot and recently back from training in Australia. About a year ago the first foreign female pilot was hired. She is English, I believe. There are at least two more, one Brazilian and one Australian.

You would have to put up with a LOT of bullsh#t just for the opportunity to make an average salary...An airplane is an airplane and I think the thrill of flying in the right seat will wear off quickly if everyone thinks you are a second class pilot at best and an insulting presence at worst......

I figure if she gets hired I can "retire" early and live the "easy" life in UAE...

Don't pay attention to Green's comments. His immaturity and lack of education show through on most of his posts at Flight Info.

The average salary he speaks of starts at $75,000 per year. That is tax free, by the way. Many plusses on top of that make it the equivalent of well over $100,000/year salary in the USA. Money in your pocket at the end of the month is where you want to concentrate on and EK provides a very good opportunity in that regard.

The majority of pilots at Emirates are western expats. That means they will treat female pilots as equals, not second class citizens.
