I am in the pool at SWA and looking to spread some of the "New Hire Expenses" out over the next 5 months in the pool!

Anyone know what headsets most guys go with? Are they provided by WN or do we purchase them.

Also wondering about the uniforms...Navy or Black and if they care if you get your own pants at a local tailor.

Just wondering......

Wait until you get in training. It will all be explained. Don't get ahead of yourself. WAIT!!!!!

They do provide a headset for you, but some guys choose to go buy Telex's or Synheisers (sp). Stay away from the Bose...........another story you will hear about in training. Most guys use the one provided in training, but opt for the molded earpiece which makes it more comfortable. I did this and have been very happy with mine.

There is a uniform shop in the training center for all your uniform needs. M&H is the vendor.

To add what 328 said...

They will make you purchase a certain amount of uniforms parts. You'll have to get at least 2 pairs of pants and a blazer that'll you'll probably never wear. It's all payroll deducted, so it's not a big hit in the wallet at once.

They do give you a headset, but like 328 said, a lot of guys go with other options. My company issued headset is still in the box as a backup. I didn't get the molded earpiece because I had one before and didn't like it. A large number of pilots do use the combo of the company issued and the earpiece, though I prefer the Telex 850. I had it from a previous job, so it wasn't an extra expense.

Any flight case will do, so if you have one from a previous life, I would bring it. The more beat up the better (you'll lose that FNG look).

Really, the only thing you need is a good attitude (and maybe a fresh liver). The expenses overall will not that bad, with the only exceptions possibly being those that came from places like the military or corporate that had to buy a flight case and/or a suitcase. If you're coming from a company that has a uniform allowance and there is some money left to purchase a few things, then it doesn't hurt to get some stuff in advance. Don't worry about anything...they'll take care of you!

I have about $800 in my current uniform fund, which I will loose when I come to SWA soon. We use M&H also, so I would like to use that money for my SWA uniform.....so does anyone know the colors etc for the SWA uniform? I want to make sure I get the right stuff.

Thanks.

As others have posted, wait till you get to training. You can spend all you want before you get here, but you will be required to buy two uniform pants and the blazer from the company.

Like everyone said they will make you buy some required items. that beeing said you can use your uniform balance to buy shirts and pants we have only two req. that i am aware off. 1. no winglet holes in the shirts and not button down collars. for the pants all they tell you is they have to blue.

Actually I was told we could wear the shirts that have "wing holes" (It doesn't say otherwise in the FOM -- I asked because I just bought those shirts at my prior job). That being said I wouldn't buy them because you won't be wearing wings.

BTW, If you can use that $850 for a nice headset it might be a good idea.

Thanks for all the great info...now just to survive 5 more months with 3 turns a day through LGA with new hires in the right seat! Serenity Noooooooow!
