I would say, the only way it would make a difference is if the tower could assign a land and holdshort of 4R w/o concern for spacing on the crossing. Then 11 would a smashing success, but of course thats not possible. You still need spacing in the event of a go around. I would say that slower ref speeds might make the Q's a hinderance. For the colgan guys, get used to 170+ to the marker.

We're used to about 230 to the marker right now so that'll be a welcome change. Slowing down and going down at the same time is no problem with those ugly props strapped to the front.

I hear the EWR base for Colgan pilots is not popular and it will likely go junior. That's all we need - junior pilots flying a big regional prop in a congested airspace in terrible weather... That could change when the airplane arrives - it might become more popular with time.

Hey Colgan guys - when are the Q400 flights expected to begin? Also, where are they likely to be deployed from EWR - any specific routes mentioned?

First planes arrive around New Years, going to...PVD,MHT,CLE,YUL,BTV,YYZ and some more, can't remember them all.

As far as 170kts to the marker...what are we gonna do with all that time? Maybe we can start programming the FMS for the next flight out!

The only time i have seen them slow us that slow is in bad weather conditions or when landing 11/29 and they are trying to get spacing. The Q is not going to make any difference in EWR.

Here is another problem I see. CAL says to the Port Authority we want to bring back bigger capacity props to reduce flights into EWR. The problem is I don't see CAL removing a flight a day out of these cities reducing the frequency. So yeah we have a bigger plane to hold more people, but wait we still have a problem with arrival/departure slots. Problem still not solved and the plane still takes up more space in EWR. With CAL and their orders, where are they going to park them all. How long is this agreement signed for by the way?

I'm not sure if the Q will increase the arrival rate into EWR or not. My guess is no but only because the reason the ATR was so successful was because of it's ability to go VFR "up the river." Not an option anymore.

The biggest problem I see is the lack of space to park the thing. In our last mgmt/pilot conference call, our people mentioned that the Q's ramp footprint is roughly the same as that of a 737. They also mentioned some problem that CAL has encountered with the jetways and how far up or back they have to go to accomodate. I really don't remember the exact details.

Regardless, the Q's arrival into EWR is going to suck for those of us at XJT who are based there. What sort of pay increase do you guys get to fly that thing anyways?

I hear you have to be located within a certain distance of EWR as well. Can you imagine living in the EWR area on that salary???? Cool looking airplane but NO THANKS!

Why fly for Colgan at EWR when you could fly jets for COEX? I think Colgan will be losing a lot more pilots - or they will just hire less experienced pilots to fly the big-a$$ props into a highly-congested area. So, to those CAL and COEX pilots out there - look out for the big props!!!!!!!!!!!!
