You'll need something that you can comfortably wear off your left ear or something single earpiece.

If I'm wearing the headset, I can't hear what the other guy is saying half the time, especially if he's one of those quiet talking kind of guys - had one I had to tell to speak up.

The airplane isn't "that" quiet... I wish it did have a hot mic like the RJ sometimes. I suggest the Telex or Plantronics single-piece headsets with the molded earpiece for comfort and long days which are likely to come more and more often.

We're down to minimum staffing, the LVI is going up substantially, meaning more flying and shorter overnights, as well as less commutability. Might as well get a headset that won't give you a headache with all that extra flying.

It's got some avionics cooling fan noise but I got by with a 750 just fine.

Slightly off topic: I rode on a SA E-170 the other day and the FO had on David Clarks--not the new, zoomie ones, the old green concrete-block version. Is that cockpit THAT noisy? TC

For what it's worth, I rode up front on a Shuttle America E170 and I would have been uncomfortable without some kind of serious noise suppression. We all used the David Clamps.

As for the 717, you could easily get away with an earmold-type headset. I used my Sennheisers in the 737 since the older models are still kind of noisy, and my hearing is largely F'ed.

I recommend the free headset that the company supplies in the airplane. Works great and it's FREE.....

If anyone thinks they need some special superduper headset on the 717, they might want to get their ears checked. Maybe you should find something else to spend your extra cash on...Wow...

On your first flight of IOE call MX and ask them to bring a new headset on the airplane. Take the brand new out of the box, purell it just in case and keep it as long as you work for that company.

Corporal,
Did you get hired by Airtran? Pozdravlyaju!

A little off subject, but here it comes...

To the moron who turned me in to coach for not plugging in company headset back when I was done in DFW last week. We were supposed to keep the airplane overnight, but didn't. Nasty-gram said that captain reached for the headset when ready to push and it was unplugged causing extra delay.
Hey Coach-loving-eastern-buddy, if you did your preflight correctly you would have unplugged headset and plugged it into CVR. Freak'n cry babies we got working here.:angryfire

Ok, now I can go sleep

Yeah, but then he wouldn't have been able to bitch to Coach, and where would the fun in THAT be?

LOL... sorry, buddy. ;)

excellent retort cable guy!!! I can't believe someone actually went to coach with that gripe...On second thought, I CAN believe it.

I believe the memory item for the "Headset left Unplugged" Emergency Non-Alert is...

Speaker ......up
Hand mike...talk into

Followed by stating "Brakes released cleared to push" as you plug in the headset and curse yourself for not finding this sooner.

What a dipdsht.

It wasnt "special" Ed was it? Seriously though, we need to start throwing blanket parties around here. What an idiot.
