Just got extended for the 4th, I was supposed to get off at 9:00am, but I figured that wouldn't happen. When I called to get my confirmation number they informed me that they had over 160 sick calls in the last two days. That is awesome!!! Yes it sucks to get extended, but I can't think of any better reason than everyone else has called in sick. I would call in myself except for the fact I have five occurences. Anyway just thought I would pass along the good news.

Yeah I got extended at the end of my trip, and I heard a bunch of other people got extended too.

Getting extended sucks, but this is what it is going to take to get a contract. If you have the ability to call in do so, I don't mind filling in for you. Just for you mgmt. lackeys, this has nothing to do with ALPA, this is just a bunch of pissed off pilots tired of the bullsh!t and we refuse to be treated like crap anymore. Even though I can't call in, I can make sure the operation in ATL today doesn't run as smooth, looking forward to that.

A sickout will just get ALPA in trouble like the American pilots. It will also get many people drafted for the 4th of July. Way to screw your fellow pilots.

It's not "screwing" anyone, except for those who choose not do anything about the issues.

Those who choose not to care, cry that ALPA will get in trouble, or complain about someone else doing something, deserve to get "screwed". Hope you enjoy your 4th at work.

5 years with no contract + no raise to keep up with inflation + record profits for our company = decreased reason to help this company succeed by going out of your way.

It's a two way street and ASA should fully accept the consequences of their choice to screw the pilot group.

So true; hopefully this will wake up our so-called management team.

Good job guys/gals!

Listen here bedpan face!!!!

Who said anything about this being a "sickout"?

That implies it was somehow organized and I haven't heard squat about it.

July 4th and Superbowl Sunday have LONG been heavy sick days. The company has statistics on this going back years. Christmas is also heavy, but not like the other two. They will survive without a single complaint to the NMB about the sick calls. Life goes on and we will all go back to work under the same contract we have right now.

These sick calls are NOT a protest to negotiations. They've been going on way longer than negotiations. They happen because "individuals" want that particular day off.

After looking at crewtrac when I got home yesterday I noticed that they wanted to extend me for a R/T. Sadly, they screwed their attempt up so badly that I didn't even have a chance to try and dodge the call.

Too bad, so sad!

On Monday got extended more than 72 hours in advance, on Friday. Isn't this stuff supposed to be put on open time so folks can bid it?

I doubt there were 160 sick calls, unless they are including the FA's (sometimes CS exaggerates). But the fact the airline is not running on schedule is causing a lot of crew rest and 30 in 7 problems.

We have had more than 40 quit in the last couple of weeks and that has to put pressure on the system since almost of those pilots were holding lines for July.

AMANSWORLD - are you 75/767 at DL, or CO?

This is being looked at by our contract compliance people. This is flat out illegal. If this happens to you, notify the scheduling clerk that it is an illegal assignment. If they persist, talk to a chief pilot. If the assignment sticks, talk to the grievance folks. There's a lot of grey area in our contract, but this one's a slam dunk,

No, thank SH for approving LOA for 2 new hires. One wanted 3 weeks off for a honeymoon and the other one week off to sail a boat from France to England.

It's about time that someone at this company helps out people who could use time off. What are you complaining about?

Also, I'm willing to bet there is a bit more reason to each example you used...

I think Scott Hall is a great person to have at ASA. My experiences with him have been positive, and I understand he has been instrumental in granting leaves for people to attend FFDO trainings.

Nice to get paid for something you don't have to do... they already pulled off the extension.

Kudos to SH for helping some folks out. Good for him and for the pilots.

Get some balls like the guys calling in sick. Sure it sucks for a little while but take it like a man. FATIGUE.

I agree. In my observances, Scott has been instrumental in securing leave for pilots who otherwise would have been SOL. At the end of the day, Scott is management. Management naturally has an agenda that is diametrically opposed to the pilot group. It'll always be that way. What separates Scott from the rest of our insufferable management team is that he has never, to my knowledge, lied to the pilot group. That goes a long long way in my book.

I moved up 131 numbers in the last 6 months. I love it. They can't extend me either. Sorry for you guys that got extended.

ASA connection - this morning

ASA flight operations management today sought relief in the Status Quo of our current contract to give raises to new hire pilots. Management stated they are having difficulty attracting qualified applicants to ASA.

After consultation with the voting members, MEC Chairman Captain David Nieuwenhuis responded to managements request by stating quite simply, “If management wants to attract quality pilots to ASA – settling the remaining open issues of our entire contract will both attract new pilots and stabilize the current pilot groups’ frustrations with management.”

While the MEC is all for working together for win-win situations, we are not interested in carving out special treatment for one segment of the group (new hires) while the remainder of the pilot group have been waiting almost 5 years for pay raises and much needed work rule changes.

One additional point; previous statements by management like, “zero-net-gain contract,” and “we need to be the second lowest paid pilots or we’ll shrink-and-die,” do not help attract quality pilots either.

Maybe this will kick start the end of negotiation

doubt it but... who knows

This deserves it's own thread, but I'm sure HelloDooshman would have a fit it another was started.

As for new hire raises, F**k that. If they want to they can raise new hire pay in our next contract.

You reap what you sow, Brian. And Charlie. And Jerry.

I'm not complaining about it because I'm not the one being extend or drafted. See years ago, before your time, we had the same problem of short on pilots, so the smart people know what they have to do to protect their days off.

I guess if you need ANY time off, since we are extending and drafting at ASA, it will have to be in the form of an LOA. Start filling those requests out pronto!!!!
