In an article in the Atlanta Business Chronicle today interviewing Grinstein:

"He added that business travel is a core part of why Delta is rebranding. The seats in the back of an airplane, he said, are a "commodity." But the seats in the front are "a brand. Business travelers respond to the brand."

He said that Delta's focus on flying more direct routes overseas will also target the business traveler. In addition to Shanghai and London's Heathrow, Grinstein said Delta will seek routes to Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney and another frequency to Japan."

Look for a more 777s coming soon, along with 787s. No mention of new Lubbock nonstops. (Darn it!)

Those are some great places to fly. Any word yet on approval to Lagos?

I believe we start in December. That will probably go junior. We already do Dakar and Joberg, but word is we may go nonstop to Joberg from ATL and then switch the Dakar flight to a JFK--Dakar--Nairobi grouping on the 763ER.

It's a miserable place so I would bet it will go junior. Been there many times with my company. If you get a chance to go pass it up.

Some "brand" General. Flew first class ATL-SJU did not even get a meal. Just beer and chips, what a joke. Airtran gives me that in coach on a one hour flightand adds XM to boot (nice ride by the way Aittran guys). NWA, and American have much better service in first class.

That is considered a domestic leg, and legs under 5 1/2 hours do not get meals usually, unless they are during meal hours. Your flight may have been in between meals. Did you pay for the ticket? Probably not, it was on FDX's dime, and that was probably at a discount too. And why are you so testy? Aren't you an ex Marine? Next time bring an MRE and enjoy that. I may have been your FO, though. It probably was a great landing. And our PAX service is better than your box service any day.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't that 757 in new colors have the Direct TV bubble on top? If so does that mean that they will be installing tv screens on all aircraft, or is it just reusing the retrofitted Song planes with it all ready?

We were told eventually any flight over 1700nm will have the TVs, with dish network. It probably did have it. There are some Song aircraft that have already been repainted into the last paint scheme, and now they will have to get painted into this new one. But, we have our own paint shop in ATL, so when it comes into the MX rotation, it will happen. No biggie. We were wondering why there were still so many Song painted planes out there still, and now we know why---another new paint scheme. I like it, though. It is clean and crisp.

Yes FedEx paid for the ticket, but I chose to take your airline, and I will not make the mistake again. The guy who works for IBM didn't buy his ticket either. Not sure what our corporate discount is, but probably the same as many of your other big clients.
The point is it is about customer service for busines travelers, and Mother Delta just does not provide it. Flew NWA the other day from PDX-MSP and had a fine breakfast, 3.5 block by the way. I really do not care what kind of new paint job you guys have, until you fix your service I will not spend FedEx money at Delta.

Did not mention that the old style drop down movie system was not working either and we were an hour late to leaveing Hotlanta.

Did I mention Airtran got me there 20 min early the other day.

Don't want to be too off topic, but I have noticed improvements in Delta service lately having flown on Delta several times over the last three weeks. NWA still has the oldest FAs on the planet - although they tend to be nice. AirTran has good service up front but they don't fly to San Juan so you were SOL. I think Delta is getting better and I am betting that they invest in a lot more training as more FAs come back from furlough... If brand is now very important to Delta to retain more business travelers, more training and extra goodies can be expected.

BTW, I fly in and out of ATL all the time and I am frequently late due to traffic and weather - flying Delta does not automatically mean delays out of ATL. You should know that.

Overall - Y I P P E E for Delta!

As a guy who buys business tickets for my other job, I do prefer Delta. Even the front in AirTran's 737's has seats hard as a rock and insufficient recline to get any sleep & AirTran does not have the little PDA application to tell customers what gate their jets are at. For folks like me who are pushed for time while travelling on business, it makes a difference.

I'm not much of a TV watcher, or radio listener, while travelling for work. But, enough room to pull out a file, or catch a power nap, is appreciated. Especially if the airplane has fewer screaming kids kicking the back of the seat.

It has been years since I was a DL Platinum Medallion miler, but even I'm thinking of using my old frequent flyer # again. (I had not bothered using it due to the pass benefits, but they are going away, as is the airline I fly for)

and Delta is hiring new hire flight attendants....

but none of these pax carriers beats a sleeping bag in the back of a FedEx jet. Anyone remember the upper deck in the old Seaboard 747-200's that FedEx got with Tigers? That is ancient history.

I finally received my orbital buffer today from FedEx. One day late I might add! You guys suck. If you cannot make overnight as promised, let the customer know. Cost me $$ as I am now delayed in the prep of a '67 vette being shown in a concours event in SDF this upcoming Derby weekend. Should have and will in the future use UPS! Rock on jarhead.

Good for you. Yeah, some of the planes need a little work, but the Song 757s (which we also fly to SJU) have Dish Network TV, which beats Airtran and even Jetblue (more options with music, games, and live TV). As far as leaving ATL late, that has normally been reduced greatly because of the changes we have made to the departure times, now being fanned out over the course of an hour, instead of having all of the departures at the same time. Sometimes there are delays, just like you guys will have in MEM now that the FAA doesn't allow your simultaneous landings on perpendicular runways at MEM. That must be a pain. I hope my package gets to me ontime, or I will have people ship me items UPS next time!

The last time I used FDX my delivery package was damaged. Never again. Its a wonder with that kind of service you guys are still in business. I used UPS last week and I have to tell you.....What can brown do for you??
FDX SUCKS! I just saw one of your trucks laying in a ditch on I95! Is that how you treat your customers' packages? Never again FDX until you fix that next day deliver stuff!

If it was a guaranteed next day delivery, you get you money back. Did you pay the extra to ensure you got it on time?

My company paid for it, and I like to try to give Fed Ex the business, but after this last fiasco......NEVER!!!!!!!!!:angryfire

I will put our percentage loss rate of packages against your percentage loss rate of bags any day.

My how this thread has creeped. Just wanted to point out that if Delta wants to promote their "brand" there is much to fix from a consumer standpoint. Right now in my opinion the others, even some LCCs are better, especially in first class.

No flames intended, but I guess that is why I rarely write on this board anymore as pointed out in another General Lee thread. Maybe instead of flamming me or FedEx you should use som key strokes to pass some info on to customer service.

If you do not like FedEx servivce, by all means switch, vote with your dollars. Try DHL and see how that goes.

I think you were just a little bit to critical! In any case if are customer service is so bad why are passengers flying on Delta by the millions and millions and increasing every day? We must do something right!

Bull $hit usmcfdx! You came on here and posted that crap with nothing but flame in mind! Try to be honest with yourself at least!

You have to pay extra to get it "on time"? Do you have to pay extra to get it delivered to the right address too?

That's a great idea. The airlines should charge extra for on time delivery. It would be less if you could accept a 2-day delivery and rock bottom prices for those willing to take a 3-day delivery.

His flight left ATL an hour late. I wonder if FDX paid extra for the ticket for it to LEAVE ontime? Did they pay insurance too? All the extra fees that help make FDX profitable.... And he blames us for having a broken video screen.....

No the original post from the General was tooting the horn of the Delta "brand". I was pointing out that the "brand" is not quite up to par when compared to the other carriers. My opinion only, with facts of my flight experience to back it up.

Your delivery is free when we don't get it there on time. What do you offer for lost luggage or missed connecctions?

No, if you pay for next day guaranteed delivery, and you get it. What kind of guarantee does any airline give about bags or making a connection, or a seat on the plane for that matter? What about those people that by tickets on the oversold flight and then do not get to ride. Maybe at christmas next year I can arrange to have your package just left on the ramp. I might even offer it a free voucher for $5 bucks of food.

My oneway refundable fare helped Delta be profitable. I'm sure it was one of the highest paid on that leg.
