Isnt the FAR for flight time in 121 operations 8 hours in one day? If so, how is Skybus going to to an out and back to LAX or SFO or SEA with one crew?
 
maybe they are going to have a crew RON? Or, they can use 3 pilots and take breaks i suppose. or is that only allowed for intl operations?
 
There is no rule allowing for a 3rd crewmember (IRO) for domestic flying... Jetblue tried to get it a year ago and they got shot down.
 
They're going to either have a second crew DH on the outbound leg, or stage a crew for the return trip. As stated above, scheduled 121 ops can not have an augmented crew to exceed 8 hours scheduled between rest periods.
 
I was told by a friend that West coast destinations will involve an overnight stay ... not a true out and back.

Wow...one 4 hour leg a day. If you are there and dont need the hours...that could be a pretty attractive schedule. Go to LAX for the night. One leg involved and come home the next day.

I'm betting it'll be more like a roundtrip to Richmond, then the leg to the west coast. After your FAA-minimum turn, an eastbound leg followed by a roundtrip to PSM.

That's my prediction, anyway.

If you think that a new LCC will have dream schedules, I've got a bridge to sell you. I forsee something more along the lines of a MKE turn followed by a trip to LAX, then 8 hours rest and a red-eye back.

Yea, I guess I can see an east coast turn followed by a west coast destination as well. Too bad they dont fly to MKE....yet!
 
They will no longer be former Indy/ACA pilots in my book - only former or current Skyslut pilots
 
Bunch of former Indy guys left solid jobs at Netjets for Skybus. Go figure...

I think some of them left NJA for captain slots at SkyBust. I wonder how many of them will regret their decision in a year or so.

Wow - $65K so someone can say they fly a "big" jet. :rolleyes:
 
I keep bumping into more and more fellow former Indy guys at NJA who show no sign of wanting to go anyplace else. I have heard of (though not known personally) some recent hires who jumped ship to places like CAL, SWA, Fedex and UPS, understandable given the domicile issues especially, but I find it hard to believe anyone would jump to something as shaky as Skybus. High stakes gamble.

I suppose if (when) Skybus goes under, Airbus time in type could place them for some lucrative contract flying in Asia, and could also pad them well towards solid places like Emirates, Cathay, JALWays, etc., who all like time in heavier iron. Scary-- next thing you know, Gulfstream or that Aeroservice (?) place in Miami where you pay to fly right seat in heavy iron will start staffing Skybus.
 
Through a friend the idea is if you do a west coast leg you will DH back to CMH ( Avg duty day will be 15.5 hours). They are following the Ryan Air model to the tee which includes no overnight nights what so ever. There is also no per diem since everything is a day trip. F/A's are paid $9/hour!!!
 
I wonder if dead heading crews are exempt from the rule of no outside food on board?

Or do they offer a crew discount
