The website says daily flights from Columbus to Burbank for $10? WTF? Yeah, this airline will be around for a few weeks at that rate. Must be an introductory fare...
The website, not surprisingly, is a bit misleading (a la Ryanair) at first glance (you need to read the fine print). Destinations on the website map from Columbus include Seattle, Vancouver, Richmond, Burbank, Ft. Lauderdale, San Francisco, Greensboro, Kansas City and Boston. However, on closer inspection, Seattle and Vancouver traffic would be funnelled into Bellingham, WA. I don't think Bellingham is that close to Seattle - maybe 100 miles or so? Boston-bound pax will actually fly into Portsmouth, NH - sure, it's sorta close... I guess for $10 one-way fares most leisure pax would be willing to drive.

So I pretended to book a flight from here to there and back in June. Most days are $10. weekends are $50. If you want to board first and "choose your seat" you can purchase priority boarding for $10 per leg per person. I read some of the contract of carriage. $5 per bag to check the first 2 bags under 50 pounds. $50 per bag for bag 3 and 4 and I think if the bag is over 50 pounds it costs $75. Oh, and you can buy trip insurance to protect your investment in case the flight cancels. Skybus will not rebook on another carrier ever. They are not responsible if they are late missing connections. And yeah, BLI is about a 2 hour drive to SEA depending on the traffic. Last time I was in BLI they did not have any jetwaysat the podunk little terminal they have there.
Not an introductory fare. Go to usatoday.com and the today in the sky web blog. There is a article in the Columbus Dispatch that says that they will be selling at least 10 seats on every flight for $10 permanently. I did a example from CMH to BUR and back.....total fare = $40! They will sell out at that rate...for better or worse, people cant afford not to fly to LA if you have to for $40.

The key is that if you don't live close to one of their airports, you will need transportation to where you actually live. (if you live in Long Beach, CA, you will need to drive an hour from BUR for example) That will cost you even more money in gas, since LA gas is over $3.20 per gallon. That is the catch---it will cost you more if you don't live near Bellingham, or Pease Air Force Base, etc. The only ones who will benefit will be those living in boring Columbus. Except for OSU and the Buckeyes, the place is boring as heck. Would anyone in BUR, Bellingham, or GSO actually want to go to CHM for a romantic weekend getaway?

Columbus is actually a pretty good city. If you dont go past the hilton garden inn at the airport, then it may be boring to you. There are good bars downtown... (lodge bar, brothers, frog bear wild boar, etc) Campus is an awesome time, and you can get anywhere in under a half hour. Dublin, Westerville, and Upper Arlington are very nice suburbs, cost of living is low, and plenty of recreation sites.
You may not want to take a vacation to CMH, but it is the biggest city in Ohio, and within two hours of CLE, PIT, CVG, DAY and only a bit further to IND. With driving to the airport easy from any of those cities via I-70 or I-71, I bet they sell plenty of seats. If not...I bet 65 million in funds and $10 fares will.

The airline announced its first service today, pending Federal Aviation Administration approval.
The Columbus-based airline has been in formation for three years.
It plans to begin service with leased-Airbus A319 jets, which will each seat 145 passengers. The initial destinations, starting May 22, include Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco Bay area, Seattle/Vancouver, Richmond, Va., Kansas City and Greensboro/Winston-Salem, N.C.
The airline also promises that $10 fares are not a promotional fare that will be discontinued, said spokesman Bob Tenenbaum. There will be at least 10 $10 seats available on all of its flights, he said. However, passengers will also have to pay taxes and fees that could add up to $10.40 each way, Skybus said.
Tickets are now on sale on the Internet only for flights through Dec. 15 at www.skybus.com.
A spokesman for Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport said Skybus would be operating from Terminal 3, Concourse E. The last airline to begin service at the Fort Lauderdale airport was Aeromexico in October 2006.
Skybus is not related to a charter plane operator by the same name that was based in Fort Lauderdale in the early 1990s, Tenenbaum said. [/FONT]

The city of Columbus is the largest city in Ohio now and is continuing to grow. Columbus is the 15th most populous city in the U.S.
Yes, the city is bigger in population.
You seem to have quite a close source for Skybus there falcon. First the website launch date nailed and now the tix sales....45,000 since 2pm?? Did you hear if most were originators from CMH and what city is the most popular to travel to?
