Instead of you captains coming on here b!tching about your F/Os wearing backpacks, ipods, or spiked gel hair mabye you could offer to mentor the younger ones. Ive been fortunate to have had a great mentor from a major airline help me along the way and give me advice. Mabye some captains with thousands of hours in the left seat could volunteer to mentor new hire F/Os and teach them what it means to be a professional pilot (there is a lot more to it than flying an ILS to mins). Stop coming on here and b!tching about it. Go out for a beer with new hires one night after ground school or help set up a mentor program at your airline. This goes for major airline pilots too, take time and give back to the aviation world instead of telling us how it ruined your life. Mabye the reason your F/O listens to his ipod all the time is he's tired of hearing you whine about everything (your wife and/or girlfriend, wx, mx, scheduling, union, why your not at SWA).

Rant over.....now less posts about the ipods and backpacks and more posts about how mesa sucks or how big b00bs are cool.

I cant speak for anyone but myself, but to me the pilots being complained about are the ones that "know it all". You know the ones that went to the academy and bought into the notion that they are Yeager, linberg, and hoover all rolled into one. They are being told on here and in person I am sure, that wearing a backpack while listening to the Ipod doesnt exactly fit the profession we are all trying to save. But we have all read the responses that result. "I hate hats they look stupid" ect.

When I was hired at my first airline I had over 5000 hours, and I made like a sponge. These captains I was flying with had all been doing this job for years, and I knew there was tons to learn.
Years later I was the capt. with the new hires now with 1500 hours, and there were a few that I could not tell anything, in fact those few actually telling me how it was.

I am not talking about letting me know when I am screwing up, I am greatful for that. I am talking about normal ops stuff. IMO this is the type that is being clumped into the Ipod wearing, backpack toting, spiked hair super pilot that people are ragging on.

I see many pilots of all ages and carriers (commuter and majors) with backpacks.

whats the big deal?

while i don't have an ipod whats the diff between some 20 something rj guy in the terminal with an ipod and a 50 something mainline guy walking thru the terminal with a cell phone held or clipped to his year?

btw - thoes of you with thoes clip on cell phones, especially the ones that blink, look like some kind of robo cyborg retard.

i mentor them on their choice of hair product and if their roots start showing i bust some serious b@lls. I mentor them on their choice to spend no more than $3200 on thier bag,flight case, and headset. I mentor them on thier choice to forego the navigation system in thier 2007 BMW.

big boobs are definitely cool!! nice post tho...

BoobS=Fun Bags=Tatas=Tits

More more more!!!

ps. Who cares about the backpack and ipods! As long as I can stand to spend a 12hr day in the cockpit with the dude/chick, I could give a shi$ less what he likes to carrier around him....

I have no problems with a mentor program as long as the mentor has big boobs, is open minded... especially on long overnights :) Bring it on!!

I would just like to stand up for us FOs. I just finished a trip with a fairly senior captain who not only had a Ipod, he wore a baseball cap and northface parker while in the terminal, with sunglasses turned backwards on his head. I got the distinct impression he was trying to hide his uniform all together because he would zip up the parker and completely hide any identifying marks like wings/badge etc... and put the baseball cap on.

We swapped aircraft with another crew whose captain was in hat and uniform jacket and he just shook his head when he saw our guy walk off.

Also the old school captain tool look is pretty stupid too, Molestor mustache, big ass ugly aviators, comb over that looks like a hair peice, nasty ass coffe-cigartte breath, cowboy boots and some brokeback mountain looking belt buckle, real professional too. I think I saw some guys on that datelines to catch a predator that sport that look!
