Well Ice and wind's had me grounded today So it Look's like St Johns To Santa Maria In The Morning.... Chat with ya all later!

Watch out for Santa Maria weather, their forecasting is VERY spotty, I guess they don't have a full time weather guy there, and you will only get forecasts when he (or she) is in the office.

We battle this a couple of times a week, but since we are 121, we can buy weather.

Good Luck!

After About 12 hours in a PA28 Non Stop I am Beat!!!! Nice even with 100 gallons and all the seats and luggage the CG in the PA28's are great even at 30% overgross the little PA28 did not have a problem getting to FL110~ Ever knotice when a PA28 gets about an inch of Rime on the leading edges it sets the stall horn off till the ice breaks off no matter what your angel of attack is hahahahahahaha!!!!

No, I got my ass out of the ice before I got that much, even when flying a/c certified for known ice.

When you kill yourself in somebody else's airplane, I hope your insurance doesn't deny their claim due to your stupidity. You DO have insurance, right?

NW Pilot,

I don't mean to pile on here, but you are way over your head dude. I hope you find a real job soon and don't have to take these risks. I mean come on man, you got a family to think about. On top of that, keep pulling stunts like above and they might not ever find you. That would just be one more emotional hit for your family to take.

I realize that there isn't much you can do if you encounter unforecasted icing (except try to get out of it) while 12 hours over the North Atlantic, but the fact that you even changed your AOA is a bad sign. You had the stall horn on, next might have been a buffet, then unrecoverable stall and death. I'm sure you are smarter than that. Hopefully you were just making light of a bad situation and hopefully it scared the S*it out of you. Hopefully you don't do it again. I don't want to see a NW Pilot memorial fund thread, nor do I want my insurance rates going up because of yet another accident.

Fly smart and Fly safe.

Looking at your track it looks like you did a 180 and then flew for a bit with another 180.

What happened?

Mother Nature can really play hardball. She gave you the one inch of ice and yah got away with it. Be careful, she might remember your words above and give yah somethin that yah cant handle to show yah whose boss.

Whatever your charging for those ferries (even though they may be fun) isnt enough. You got some brass balls Id say. Mine are tiny compared to yours.

I do hope that you have safe flights and that all goes well. The one time when that engine runs rough or has had enough when your over the water might be the time that you will think twice about doing it again...unless maybe it has at least another engine. I too would hate to see a thread for you recognizing accomplishments of the late NW pilot.

Spoken like a true tool.

Doing a little research it shows the shipping lanes far north of where you flew.

I was wondering what happens when you have an engine failure. Who comes and gets you. I realize you're probably wearing a gumby suit and a life raft and the water isn't as cold as up north but you can't stay in the water forever.

Aircraft can't come get you. So what options do you have? That is all if you survive the ditching and don't get injured.

I know people do it for the money and the experience but the dangers far outweigh any risk.

Yah, I'm not so sure what you would do if you went in the drink. Make sure yah got some "minis" with yah to take away the pain of the frightful look of some big waves while your on that raft or some grayish looking fins circling around yah there. I know that you take that into consideration but if it really happend, Diesel does raise a good point...WHO is going to come and fish you out? Kinda like flying a caravan or a single engine plane over the Amazon. You go down there and thats all she wrote. At least in the Atlantic, you might stand a slightly better chance.....not much though.

123.45/121.5 Are your best chance for en-route weather or a relay, Were out there tue's & wed's on are way from bwi to Italy via loges (sp).

good luck......you're "braver" than me.

Well I am in Dakar, Senegal Not much more water or ice hahahahaha unless that climate shift Al Gore was talking about suddenly happens...... Now Fuel is another situation!!!! $$$$$$$$ about 3.00 USD a liter! And about 1,000NM more water

This is one of those situations where somebody manages to get by without getting hurt or killed and laughs all the while thinking that it's really no big deal.

My friend, especially if the above was true about you having a family, you're are playing with fire(and ice). The rest of the world are not necessarily wimps...what does that make you?

Getting in the shower can be deadly. As can Russian Roulette. Just because both CAN kill you, doesn't mean the odds of getting killed are the same for either. It also doesn't mean there aren't things you can do to mitigate those risks.

The cavalier attitude you express on here towards these great risks you're taking and narrow escapes causes some on here with more experience concern for your long term future. Yes, the saying goes "judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgment" but it seems as if you're missing the link between the two steps, in LEARNING from your bad judgment in the past.

Good luck, and when that runs out, I hope your client's airplane is well insured.

Re-enforcing his toolishness.

If you had a inch of icing over the North Atlantic in a non turbo piston single, you were in a situation you should not have been in. You were just lucky the icing did not continue, you could have been in a bad situation quickly.
Every year there are ferry pilots that are not heard from again, and the ocean became their grave.

If you make any stops in Bamako Mali, I can set you up with people to take care of you there, a good group of South Africans I know there.

Avoid Nigeria at all costs, even an emergency landing there will get you in prison if you didnt have permission to land there.
