While being a passenger today on a Republic ERJ the flight attendent says that the window shades must be in the up/open possition for take off and landing. I've heard this before on an Eagle flight. Never heard this said on a CRJ. Anyway, just curious, why up on take off and landing on the ERJ?

In case of an accident or evacuation. The firefighters can see inside and more importantly the pax can see outside to orient themselves/escape.

Yep - Egress issue. If you look out the window and see fire, go out the other side....

I think it's so you can see the wingtip dig when one of those 300 hour kids has an engine fail at V1 HARHARHAR

Republic doesnt operate ERJ's. They operate EMB-170's and EMB-175's. CHQ operates ERJ's. I'm posssssitive.

I've been riding on both Hair-Raisin and Re-Pubic this month....
RJ's $uck way more than E-170s' (except the confides of th RJ means the Hair-Raisin-Hotties warm the side of my head with their buns as they go up and down the aisle.

This is not an FAR I guess it's just policy at XJT it used to be like that but it's no longer required.

Never heard this at XJT when riding in the back and I dont believe it is policy at XJT, if you think/know it is send me a PM with the FOM/CFM page number and I will stand corrected(or if you are an FA and dont know what an FOM or CFM even is let me know the page number in your all's spiral bound manual). I remember hearing it back in the day when riding on TWA. It was for the previously mentioned being able to see out and see fire or the fire department being able to see in.
