Is IAH still above 250k below 10,000 feet? If so, do you need ATC to tell you to do it? Anything else to know about for IAH (arrivals/departures)? First time going in.

When I was up flying a few weeks ago (IAH area), I heard a controller saying something about bringing that program back online.

Just look over the airport diagram beforehand. A lot of the taxiways have double letters. It can be a long taxi sometimes.

Approach "XXX, say speed"
Me "ahhh...250"
Approach "Why is your 250, 30 knots faster than everyone else's 250?"
Me " Divine wind "
Approach " XXX, Slow to 220"

Dangit, they get me every time.

So what happens if you exceed 250kts under 10,000? Do you get a virtual violation? :D

"Go away, read some books!" /end Nacho Libre voice

I mean really, couldn't you just fly in there at any dang speed you wanted? It's a game, for the love of Methuselah.

Doesn't Riddle offer a class covering this question. You should know this.

The big "gotchas" at IAH on the arrivals are the speeds. Watch out for those. They are mandatory, e.g. EXPECT STROS AT 10,000 CROSS AT 250. ATC will sometimes slow you or assign you a speed, then give you "normal speed." They like to do this on the RIICE arrival a lot. "Normal speed" still means CROSS BRKMN AT 250. It's screwed several guys up. They've stopped doing it for the most part, but some guys will still do it. Unless you hear "Delete the speed," they need the speed on the arrival.

"for the love of Methuselah"So if Methuselah "IS" the oldest man in the Bible, how is it that He died before his father?Inquiring minds want to know!!!</p>
