You will get 10 days off they will fly you until you beg for the firing squad and you will be on reserve for the rest of your life expectency.
Hey but at least you are a captain.
BINGO!
Falcon, I'd definitely stay put. If SWA is your ONLY goal, then the PIC 121 isn't going to be as big of a deal. If, however, you're also interested in other majors, you might want to rethink it.
That was MY thinking when I got laid off the winter prior to 9/11 and had the choice between Netjets and PCL street CA. I knew I wanted to fly in the airline world SOMEWHERE, so I went the PCL route to get the 121 PIC.
Best and worst 3 years of my life, mainly because the company had good QOL when I hired on but changed everything about a year later including god-awful short overnights EVERYWHERE, trips became uncommutable, and what was SUPPOSED to be 6 months of reserve became 3 years of the above-mentioned treatment by scheduling.
I used sick calls religiously just to get a break after an especially grueling 6-day flying marathon just to get a few days off at home. No WAY I could have survived that being married without moving into domicile.
The crews were what made it the best 3 years. The DTW domicile was VERY small and had just opened and everyone knew and partied with each other. It's not like that so much anymore, but guys still have a good time from what I understand.
If I hadn't done that, I'd be home-based with Netjets as a 7th year CA making just shy of $100k a year with 14 days off a month.
Since I DID go to PCL, I'm now starting my 2nd year at AirTran, averaging 16-20 days off a month. Only making $50k a year. Again. But upgrade is 4 years or so and it's nice having almost zero responsibility and flying 2 or 3 legs then going into a 14, 16, or even 20 hour overnight on the beach.
Speaking of which, I'm headed out to the beach before it rains. Good luck!
