Anyone know if Skywest prevents hiring of ASA pilots? The reason I ask is because I've heard several stories of ASA pilots with all the qualifications that Skywest was looking for but got rejected, while there are 1000 hour CFIs getting hired. Since ASA is owned by Skywest, are they not allowing ASA pilots to make the lateral move to Skywest?

I don't think that's true since I've flown a few former ASA pilots. I think quite a few have made the move actually. If any have been rejected it's probably because they failed the interview. If an ASA pilot comes in with good qualifications but has a bad attitude or acts like the job is owed to them, I guarantee the 1000 CFI with a better attitude is going to get the job. I will say that all the former ASA people I've flown with have been great and considering having to start over, have been pleasant to fly with.

2 ASA guys got hired in my interview group last year. I agree with previous posts about attitude. If you have the whole "burn it down" SKW inc owes me this job mindset, you will get denied.

There was an ASA guy in my class and he was even given superseniority in front of the rest of the class.

CFI's sometimes get hired before others with better experience because they come prepared for the interview. Too many guys that would probably do great at SkyWest show up with little or no preparation. They forget all of their book knowledge and screw up the interview, or so I've heard.

Thanks for the replies guys. It's good to know that if ASA wasn;t agreeing with me, I can still make the move to Skywest later on.

Each class has 1-6 ASA pilots in it. But if you give them attitude in the interview, you will not make it to SkyWest. (apparently it happens quite often)

I asked my interviewer how guys with previous 121 time did in the interviews and he said not so well. He said that a lot of guys don't prepare because they figure they are a proven commodity and so show up unprepared for the technical interview type stuff. I know for me I was sweating trying to fly steam gauges again in the sim.

I currently fly for ASA interview at SKW and now I start on the 16th with those folks. The supersenority thing is true from what I was told during the interview. Everyone looked happy to be there (meaning the SKW employees), kinda a nice change.

I don't think that Skywest should hire any ASA pilots who were hired at ASA after the fall of 2005. The ones who were hired before the purchase should be welcomed over if they decide to jump. But I can't stand the sh1ts that got hired after Skywest already owned ASA with like 400tt and now come over to Skywest with 1001tt and act like they are industry and union experts and that they should get preferential treatment at Skywest and start on second year pay. I've met more than a couple of these dorks.

They're on first year pay, second year benefits (401k match, travel, etc) from what I understand. Of course, why should they come over hear and spout their expertise after 1 year at ASA when we have the likes of Hootie who has twice [sic] as much experience flying the line.

So how does that work, flying a former ASA pilot? Do you jump on their back, smack em on the arse and yell "V1" "Vr" when they run fast enough? LOL....Are they stable or unstable in flight?

I Know what you meant, just being a smart arse...

96 have left since Jan 1 and there are more to come. From FO's to 18+ yr Captains have left and probably 2/3rds of the pilots have their apps out. The paper had us last again in performance numbers!!!! We're consistant if not anything else. DAL is taking over all ground operations and thinks they can do a better job at it with half the workforce!!! Yeah, right! I was 40 minutes late the other night waiting on fuel. DAL needs to kick AS1G in the arse as well cause they are causing many delays.

The ship is taking on water and noone seems to know it but us rats. The rats are jumping ship and managment still doesn't have a clue why.

No one from ASA will get hired there right now. We have too much of a staffing issue at ASA for them to shoot themselves in their own foot.

what difference would it make whether one had been hired at asa pre skywest purchase or post?? i started at asa about 2 months before the buyout, so i guess that makes it okay for me to be at skywest? i am at skywest now and i certainly don't act like i am an expert on anything nor did i think i should get preferential treatment. i still had to interview like everybody else (and it was much more grueling than the other interviews i had been to, but hey, i studied so i was prepared). i know several former asa people who came to skywest. there were four in my class. i also know some who didn't make it through the process, and i agree with the other posts, bad attitude did them in. there were rumors of us getting second year pay when i started and i'll admit i would have liked it had it occurred...but it didn't, so i make the same crappy first year pay (again) that everyone else there does. yes, we did get seniority above everyone else (except other skywest employees, they were first, then asa employees, then everyone else) and kept our original seniority for the travel, and health benefits. we were given a sheet of paper in training that kind of explained how things worked for people who came from another part of the skywest, inc. group to skywest airlines. many other positions got to keep some part of their seniority and pay (i forget the formula), among other things. flight crew got the least benefits from changing sides. but that's just the way it is. i know there are tons of people who come from other carriers and are 'starting over' and they don't even get that much.

So can any verify the pay ASA people get when they hop over? Does the pay go back to first year or is it different?

I was probably the #96 yesterday when I turned my badge and books in to MJ. I'm a 4 1/2 year FO and would probably upgrade within the coming months. I'm sure I made the right decision in leaving....good luck to all those still there.
