By Harry R. Weber, AP Business Writer Delta Air Lines Records $55 Million Profit on Revenue of $1.25 Billion in February

ATLANTA (AP) -- Delta Air Lines Inc., the nation's third-largest carrier, reported Thursday that it earned $55 million on revenue of $1.25 billion in February in contrast to a loss a year earlier.

Come'on F2 you know better than that!! Dal did not make a profit they had a net INCOME of 55million.

Delta reported net income of $55 million in the month of February 2007, compared to a net loss of $209 million in February 2006. Excluding reorganization items, Delta's net loss was $43 million for February 2007, a $95 million improvement versus the prior year period. Delta's operating loss of $5 million includes a $5 million negative impact of fuel hedges for the month. As of February 28, 2007, Delta had $3.7 billion of cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments, of which $2.7 billion was unrestricted.

The long and short here is it's better than an year ago but overall still a loss. Going into the summer months if fuel stays high it's going to be a long road for all who don't have significant fuel hedges...

"Earlier this week, the company said its goals when it exits bankruptcy include continuing to improve customer service and selling more assets to build shareholder value, raising the possibility it could shed feeder carrier Comair.

For the first quarter, which ends Saturday, Delta is forecasting a narrower loss of $25 million to $50 million.

For all of 2007, Delta is projecting a pretax profit, excluding special and reorganization items, of $816 million.
A confirmation hearing on Delta's reorganization plan is scheduled for April 25."

Airline rally peters out as oil futures jump

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - An early rally in airline shares crumbled Thursday after crude-oil futures jumped more than $2 higher to $66 a barrel.

It's going to be tough to make the $800 million, without special items, this year with such a weak first quarter. I'm not betting on it happening.

I am betting the $60+ oil will continue the well hedged onslaught by competitors in 2007.

Another question---How much of the better performance is due to parking the incredibly inefficient 737-200s?

Feb. is a slow month in the industry as a whole. To post $55M in Net income in Feb. is a good start to what will be a very profitable year. DAL's business plan is based on $2/gallon. So far DAL has met or exceeded all of its financial goals. It should be a very good summer for DAL.

DAL will exit bankruptcy in about a month with one of the best balance sheet of any of the network carriers and a business plan that has surpassed all expectations. :)

Then that's what you want to have happen. If at the end of the year you made 1 dollar in profit you're ahead of the game. A plan with fuel at 2 dollars a gallon has to be good however oil is at 66 a barrel in trading today and over 2.65 at the pumps avg. I sure hope this works and I will be pulling for you at the end of April but if you don't exit at that time you know I have to crack jokes on ya right???

NWA made an operating profit of $49M for February. This is a much more diversified company than DL at the moment. That's not to say DL can't get there in 3-5 yrs, but the way the business model is set up they need to make their bones during the European Season and the summer here in the USA.

Incidently, I stand corrected on the negative operating loss for DL. It looks like they broke even not counting the fuel hedge loss. Didn't see that info.

Our CFO said on CNBC yesterday that we forcasted our $850 million year end profit with $65 a barrel fuel in mind, plus we have hedged significantly at $55 a barrel. I have the actual tape recording if you want me to PM it to you. The only forcast Parker has given is four Martinis this Friday night on Mill Avenue in Tempe, followed by a drag race on I-10.

How did Geico do this quarter? Did you hit your own quota?

So, if I can read through the colorful prose, you forecast USAir's profit (or almost profit) to trail Delta's this quarter?

I expect that we will pull in much more than $1 in profits in 2007. My crystal ball forecasts a significant pretax profit and net income for the full year.

Your right that the average price of unleaded gas at the corner station is $2.65/g, but luckily we don't buy that gas at that station for our aircraft.:)

Good luck in your negotiations.

The ad hominem attacks are getting a little tiresome. Smacks of desperation...TC

You'll have to ask Warren Buffett. Geico is a direct writer and probably pays their sales force a salary with a bonus for hitting their quota. Independent Agents like myself actually get quite a nice commission + override for profit & volume. Insurance has been berry, berry, good to me!;)

That's true and thankfully so however that illstration was used to make a point that oil was at $66/barrel and that price does effect us in the airline industry;)

I fully expect DAL to make more than a dollar but that too was used to make a point. If at the end of the day you made 1 dollar in profit you are ahead of the game and that's better than many in the industry today...

Is this coming from the same genius that predicted the demise of DL a little more than a year ago? The same idiot that predicted the demise of UAL, LCC?
Get lost, and stick to selling vacuum cleaners or whatever it is you do!

You stand corrected on everything you post because you are an idiot!

Point well taken, I agree. This is a tough business.
