Well, too bad they had to get rid of Fred GREED. He would have sunk them quickly. He used to run Delta with Leo Mullin, and he loved RJs. Yeah, businessmen love RJs, and their limited space over long periods of time....

Bye Bye--General Lee

I say you guys blacklist the suckers. Make life miserable for them.

I say we start no shiite jump seat wars and get these guys blacklisted at a national level (along with Skybus). See how long they can get employees to work in the SFO Bay area when they actually have to live there on less than $60K/yr.

Gas stations are Goverment regulated and must sell their gas according to the district they are in. That is whey you might see one across the street selling for less than the other guy but they other guy can't match it because of the side of the street his place is on.

What country do you live in???

Well, I gotta say I'm "impressed" by their initial cadre. I know one of the the guys from my previous airline (VM). Needless to say, he was an opportunist from the get-go. He tried several coups where he could wrestle the power away from the MEC chairman. (Not that he was a saint either.) But if VA is hiring guys like VM, they're in for a bumpy ride...

and they want to know if you will pay for your type rating....

I answered "yes" just to waste their time and enjoy laughing out loud when they call.

Anyone know any of these guys?

Yeah. One is a good friend. He's got more experience than you can ever dream of having. He's a good stick and a great guy.

Too bad ALPA F'ed him out of a career. 90% of the people here can't hold a candle to him as an aviator or a person.

VA is a symptom of the problem. ALPA ran and hid. Now, it's every man for himself. TC

I notice that the only pilot openings are in Burlingame, California and the headings for "compensation" and "benefits" are suspiciously blank...

It might not be a national thing but where I live ( Eastern Washington) there was a news story on it and they showed the districts and all. So it might be a State or local issue only. Kinda like you can't pump your own gas in Oregon. I'm not saying stations had no freedom on pricing but they had a cap and a bottom price based on districts and the districts were drawn up based on property taxes and incomes, how close to the freeway / highway, etc, among other factors.

Are we talking about Virgins????

Are we still talking about Virgin, or SWA?

Luv

Huh - Are you for real? Those are some big words. Care to fill us all in on how 90% of us can't "hold a candle to him?" I didn't know Jesus was a pilot...

Baja.

BTW - I DO agree with a national boycott of jumpseats. Companies like this are HURTING us all!!!

Couple of questions:

Doesn't SWA have enough cash in the bank to start a major price war over SFO routes? Something that VA couldn't afford?

Anyone else wonder why all these cheap startups are all getting Airbus products? Are they still giving away free planes?

Lastly, anyone know precisely what the pay rates are yet, to some degree?

I doubt WN cares much. The business they lose will be nominal. They will sit back and laugh as the legacies drop fares to compete for business on the transcons.

I welcome these guys in the market place. When DL charges $600+ to ride in the back of a SW/ASA RJ from SLC to SFO you know the market is ripe for some new blood. From what I have heard, Virgin has chenged their route stategy and in addition to the transcons, they will go vertical up and down the coast as well.

Little amazing to all you die hard union guys, your favorite California Dem's, Finestein and Boxer went overboard to get Virgin up and running ASAP. I suspect that with all those terminal 2 gates at SFO sitting idle, someone was going to pay to play in this market. SWA and Virgin should do well and as for UAL and others, it will simply be one more blow to the bottom line.

As for holding off on the jump seats, proably a little short sighted at this time and place. These guys will get big in a hurry and they may be the best ride in town by the time they get up and going in a yaer or two.
