I talked it about it in a class the other week but I don't remember the cause.

Story was the MX guy was repositioning it from the hangar and somehow managed to kill the hydraulic pumps.

Lost the brakes and ran right into the jetbridge. Pure incompetence, nothing wrong with the airplane mechanically.

The mechanic had previously been employed at Pinnacle Airlines, but had been asked to resign for his history of unsafe behavior. Unfortunately, with no discipline ON RECORD, he was able to go to Mesaba without his past being known... until he bent that airplane.

I seem to recall they totaled the aircraft, something about bending the main spar that runs up the longitudinal axis of the aircraft...

Something about 2 engines ran hydraulic pumps..and 2 ran generators..so if you taxiied without either of the engines that ran the hydraulic pumps you could lose all your pressure after a few applications of the breaks. Does that sound right?

Something similar happened in SLC several years ago. A mechanic taxiied one of our Brasilias into the "Y" (Y-shaped terminal)...............literally. don't remember all of the details, but a lack of hydraulics was the culprit if I remember correctly.

I don't remember all the details of the incident. But the Avro had the generators on engines 1 and 4 and the hydraulic pumps on 2 and 3. I forget now which engine was primary for the break system but either could be selected if need be. As for the incident in question, if memory serves correct from ground school it had something to do with some circuit breakers being pulled that shouldn't have been as part of their maintenance work. Keep in mind my one and only Avro ground was 2 years ago now and the story is a bit foggy. I believe that hull was turned into the fire trainer for the MEM CFR.
