bush league??? there's the quote of the day..... your gonna have to pull that silver spoon out of your naive mouth before you really see how the real world operates.

as far a operational missteps go, you better get a history lesson on airline "operational/decisions" before you go out into the real world. jetblue has made just as many missteps and snafus as the next guy.

good luck, your in for a rude awakening.

Well there you go. Another captain proud of mediocrity.

Yes, I bet JB has made as many mistakes as the rest. NEVER SAID THEY DIDN'T. Please put my quotes in the proper context. The question is not whether they reinvent the wheel every time they encounter adversity (like many airlines do), it's whether they can AFFORD to reinvent the wheel every time. We have very little wiggle room when it comes to profit margins. And that gives me doubts about stability and success, both of which may be years in the making (if they occur at all). That's all I am saying.

This thread has gotten so convoluted and off topic. What do my opinions have to do with any of this and what do y'all expect to gain by debating me on my "silver spoon" attitude? And what makes you so angry about all my posts? Are you taking into account the many past posts where I have defended jb (many of which are in this thread)? You say I am being naive, I say you are being defensive. Extremely defensive. And all because of ... ?

Should I just shrug my shoulders, chalk all of my experiences at jb up to the airline industry and just keep on truckin'? Or maybe, just maybe, things might get better at jb if we as a pilot group don't kid ourselves about those things that continue to get in the way of jb's long term success?

JBPA -- Major deja vu. I do this every couple of months. Back to sarcasm and humor. Dissention will not be tolerated.

im not proud of mediocrity. im simply stating the obvious. if you think that other airlines have not made dumb mistakes (or "reinventing the wheel" or whatever you want to call it) in the past, than you are very naive.

good, bad,or indifferent, that is how the industry has been, and always will be. at least jetblue TAKES the iniative to correct the mistakes the've made. and there will be more. its not "mediocrity", its REALITY.

Dude, I was thinking the exact same thing. Be careful though: Sometimes the sarcasm and humor are way over some of these dimwits' heads. Now take your silver spoon and go eat some humble pie (was Erin Gray your nanny by any chance?)!

So it just comes down to mocking everyone that doesn't agree with you and Bavarian?

I think most guys/gals that have in fact worked at other airlines have a better understanding of where we are at JetBlue and what the airline CAN BE.

Having worked at the regionals, a major freight and a major passenger carrier, belittling my opinion just speaks of YOUR closemindedness.

Being Sarcastic and Negative does nothing to solve the issues at hand.

So how about stuffing the sarcasm and negativity in your shorts and concentrate on constructive and meaningful dialogue?

Nope, if I did that I'd have 6,000 posts

Good for you. I think folks like me and Chef have a better understanding of where we SHOULD be.

Having worked at the regionals, a major freight and a major passenger carrier, belittling my opinion just speaks of YOUR closemindedness.
See below. Pot, meet kettle. Are you a sucker for punishment?

Being Sarcastic and Negative does nothing to solve the issues at hand.
I agree with the second part of your statement. I think being sarcastic adds some levity to an otherwise depressing situation. Also, doing nothing and wearing blinders does nothing to solve the issues at hand.

So how about stuffing the sarcasm and negativity in your shorts and concentrate on constructive and meaningful dialogue?
Umm, okay. How about you practice what you preach. While I'm stuffing my shorts, may I recommend you get hooked on phonics and work on your reading comprehension?

First of all, I don't recall addressing you in my recent posts. Have I mocked you? Defensive? Secondly, you mention 'belittling my opinion just speaks of YOUR closemindedness' after accusing me (indirectly) of being naive, ignorant, and greedy. Now I'm supposed to acquiesce when the self-proclaimed aviation know-it-all tries to refute (quite impotently I might add - that was sarcasm) FACTS about our operations of late, our less-than-mediocre pay, and our crappy benefits? Further, it seems your only argument is "you guys are so young and naive and therefore you're wrong". Did I miss something? Or: "We are like SWA 30 years ago, you're wrong, naive, and greedy, so there". Sorry dude, I get bored easily when debating at the 9th grade level (THAT was mocking). I'm sure you'll be offended, but IMO it is you who is the naive one. If you have such vast aviation experience I would think that you would expect to have an ever-improving QOL/pay/benefits and would want to 'move up in the world'. I guess that's another area where we differ. Oh well, the world needs ditch diggers too (more mocking).

Hasn't this horse been officially beaten to death? You can have the last word, I truly DGAF. I have less than 100 posts in 6 years (lost the password to my original name). Now I remember why!

Dude, they're captains. Enough said.

Back to the topic: OPEN HOUSES.

You going to the JetBlue Open House in Herndon, Virginia? I think the refreshments are being provided by the John Prater Catering Company -- interesting choice, but I think their bill of fare is quite tasty. I wish I could go but I am gonna be off naively serving my country again instead of sucking up another straight-in approach or another chance to learn how to properly pull a rollaboard.

Cheers!

Well said. I think everyone's background and past experience contributes to one's opinion of our company. Having come from strictly a regional background, this company is great and I have no intention on leaving. No company is perfect and yes we have certain issues that need to be taken care of. I admire management for admitting to those and hopefully correcting them in the near future. Since I've been here, I've always felt respected and appreciated, something I rarely felt in the past. I'm proud to work for this company and excited about the future. For anyone interested in working here, attend one of the open houses and see for yourself the quality people we have here! Best of luck.

And all you need to do to get hired is pee in a cup.

...I missed and peed on the floor.

damn...I'm not good enough

You guys need to open a history book!

So you're referring to SWA about how great they are?
Well, you're right! They are AWESOME.

HOWEVER..

It took 30+ years to get to where they are.

You two Junior Varsity wannabes would NEVER have persevered through their many, many struggles and most of all, their SUBSTANDARD wages compared to the Major Airlines of that time period!

You guys are really something!
How about open your eyes and learn something!

Do you guys realize how many SWA pilots left the company in those first 20 years? LOTS... I flew with some of them at USAirways.

We don't have a crystal ball...
So do what you gotta do... but come on... be realistic and learn about the past...

A Junior Varsity wannabe? I've been around a few years, I'm familiar with airline history. I'm purposely vague on my background, but it includes more than one airline. I know you hate people who don't inject the KOOLAID directly into their veins.
I'm curious, do you ask your FO's their opinion on things? The Captains I fly with never do, I think most don't want to know.

The Pig.

Bavarian..

IMO, guys like you don't see the big picture.

You come out of the military and the "real" world frustrates you.

You should take some time and really study the airline business.
JetBlue is unique in many ways.
Neeleman and company have stepped on their "units" ...
And repeatedly so.

But I believe their heart and intentions are decent.

Go to work for a REAL airline.
Watch your pension you worked for for 25+ years get terminated by your own UNION. Participate in the whipsawing that is played out in your pilot group with senior/junior/mainline/regionals.

Watch your CEO come in.... slap some paint on the walls... try to sell you then leave with millions.

REALITY CHECK BAVARIAN..

It ain't so bad to work for these guys.

IMPROVEMENTS??
They will come.

Screwups...
YES... they will be there.

DELAYS with deicing in JFK, EWR, LGA.

YES! There always have been and always will be.
Maybe the traffic down turn after 9/11 mislead you...

Go kick your dog if you're so frustrated!

You think ALPA wanted to terminate their pensions? You need a drug test. They agreed to it with a gun against their heads and you should know that. Aren't you the one lecturing me on airline history? Take a look in the mirror Capernicus.

Most Captains I fly with agree there is a problem. Every FO I run into knows there is a problem. The question remains what will both groups do about it collectively.

As for the open house ya'll will have a good time. Jetblue is very good about pumping you up and making you excited about the job. The hiring folks have nothing to do with pay and benefits so they just try to get you excited about working here. Hopefully they are being honest with candidates about the current status of things and not what they hope will happen.

Right now a shocking percentage of pilots are using Jetblue as a stepping stone. Given how important our culture is to leadership this sad fact will have a significant negative effect on Jetblue.

hopefully soon. one of many?

you were talking about the thread, right? why would i leave jb and miss all the fun? this thread though, dead.

Has anyone given the thought that maybe JetBlue is OK with the fact that some people are leaving? If you do the math, maybe it is in JB's best interest that some pilots leave. Fact, the Captains on the A320 are the main focus of the airline. As long as you keep them at JB, (I don't think any of them have left other than 1 or 2) you will have a safe and efficient operation. Does it really matter what experience an FO has? These planes are not hard to fly. So, attrition is OK as long as it doesn't cost more to train new pilots. Longevity pay is going to increase for FO's on the A320 and E190. If those pilots leave before they make it to the higher level of longevity pay, then it will benefit JB. See the point?

Finally, I have to make one more point. For those who leave JB, the grass is not always greener. A good example of this are Southwest pilots in the late 90's who left SWA for that higher paying legacy carrier who promised the 6 retirement pensions. Now, they probably don't have a job there nor their future retirement. If they would have stayed put, they would be better off now as a Captain on a B-737 at SWA.

JB is not perfect, but the future is brighter (hopefully profits this year) and upgrades are still faster than any other airline. JB has the best domestic product out there and customers still love to fly on us over our competition. There have been no furloughs even in the roughest of times. So, come to the MCO open house, have a good time, and I hope you get hired!

Getting back to the thread...
I'm going to the open house on the 20th, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to get an interview. I attended the one in Dec and was impressed.
Got an interview out of it for Feb, though I wasn't hired.
Now I'm 6 weeks older, 6 weeks wiser and got another 70 hours of 121 PIC!

Hope to see others there.
Anyone know, business casual again?

Always
Motch

Go kick your dog if you're so frustrated!

So this is what JB guys do when the going gets tough???? The ASPCA will be notified of this shortly.

Whenever any of you JB guys get frustrated, I recommend that you head back to the lav...look at some of the hot vixen flight attendants that you have on board and then go find your happy place. I love flying JB and hope that you guys are around a long time....(I'm just a bit more careful to book elsewhere during the winter months.) Ahhh.....happy place.

Just kidding, we do have a few hotties running around.

 only a few?

guess I'll meet the 3 or 4 you have soon...start class in two weeks.
