I am looking for an airplane for a friend that can fly into a 4500 ft runway. He wants a 8 - 10 pax airplane.. Any airplane I should be looking at?? Must be a jet.

You don't mention anything about your mission other than runway length, nor your budget, but it sounds like a good fit for the Citation Sovereign:

http://sovereign.cessna.com/home.chtml

Fully loaded, 77 degrees F, 5000' elevation, they're advertising a 3,980-foot FAR 25 takeoff runway length.

Normal layout is 8 pax in a double-club layout (that's how ours at NetJets are configured), but it can be configured for up to 12. Big baggage area as well.

First what is the price range? How far does he want to go from this 4,500 foot runway? What is the elevation of the airport?

Easy answer is a Falcon 50, preferably a 50EX.

cl-300, 2000EX Falcon 50, Falcon 900 ect .... however no matter what airplane you are looking at will put your career at risk if you attempt to land when the runway is wet. Hate to have an over-run. Especially when you have to explain why did not use the more conservative 1.92 numbers. Even if you are 91 you will still get asked ....

From as little information we have to go off of. I would agree that the CE-680 would be an excellent choice.

4500 ft

Citation 680 would be ideal for you and your situation, 15 million , is that the problem?
:)

Cl30

The Challenger 300 will do that all day long. We routinely fly into Nevis, 3800 ' strip and fly nonstop to Whiteplaines. Coast to coast no problem and no wet foot print crossing the pond.

Falcon 50/50EX, Falcon 900/900EX.

Falcon 50 at Sea Level 30c @ 36,000 lbs = 4500ft BFL.
(BOW on most 50s is around 22,400. Lets say 8 peeps at 175lbs each + 300lbs of bags = 24,100lbs. Add 12000lbs now your up to 36,100 but we'll plan 100lbs of taxi fuel.) You could come out at 36,000 lbs on a 30c day and fly up atleast 4 hours and land with 3000lbs of fuel which is what I use as a reserve. Thats fuel planning at 3000, 2000, 2000, 2000. Our 50 does better than than and its not an EX. An EX will definately do better than that.

Now for the 900EX (but your also talking upwards of 28 million for one of these)

Same scenario... SL @ 30C on a 4500ft strip 8 peeps 300lbs of bags.

BOW weight on 900EX (correct if Im wrong please) 25,500 to 26,000? I know the 900B I flew was 25,500 can't remember the EX. Anyway

25,500 + 1400 (pax at 175) + 300lbs bags = 27,200
You can put on 14,800 lbs of fuel
T.O. weight will be 42,000 with BFL of 4200'

Same fuel planning 3000, 2000, 2000 etc...
You can fly up to atleast 5 hours and land with 3000 lbs reserve...

Landing Numbers...

Falcon 50/50EX
VREF / Landing Distance / Landing Field Length
35,000lbs = 125 - 2850'/4760'
33,000lbs = 121 - 2700'/4510'
31,000lbs = 118 - 2550/4260'
29,000lbs = 114 - 2400'/4010'
27,000lbs = 110 - 2275/3800'
25,000lbs = 106 - 2150'/3590'

Falcon 900EX
You have to be less than 32K to land and be legal. All these numbers are for ******DRY RUNWAY & NO WIND********

I don't know anything about a Sovereign, except that it looks like Cessna built it out of left over parts from every other jet that they've built..

The CL-600 looks like one BAD A$$ airplane to me.. I know nothing about it, but Ive been in one, and I think it would be a dream to fly.. But if your going to do any Intl over water stuff... Ill take 3 engines over 2.. Did I mention that the CL-600 looks BAD A$$...

Kinda looks like a SkyWest CRJ to me.

You should talk to some folks who have actually flown a CL-600.

At least it has the big comfortable cockpit. :)

Falcons

From my point of view the tri-jet Falcons of the EX variety would be the best. There are other cheaper airplanes that will do it but NONE more safely than a Falcon.

That said our company still uses 5000 X 100 as the minimum for any jet operation. Less requires a Safety Management System analysis and CP /crew approval.

Good luck with the search.

The Falcon 50, 900, 900EX doesn't? Heck, I have a hard time telling them apart. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Why re-invent the wheel? Easier transition for all the pilots and MX crews. Plus helps to keep costs down.

Ooops... I meant the CL-300... Sorry...

I did a similar check on aircraft for a 5000 ft rwy @ 40degrees C. Heres what I came up with. CL300,604. GII,GIII,GIV,GV. Falcon 50,900. Legacy. Sovereign, Excel,

And what did you come up? I am sure that all of them can get off the ground ... but which ones can go anywhere?

I'm sorry, but our mission was 8 pax, 104 degrees F (40C) and 1000nm. VGT-GTU. The excel couldn't do it with 8 pax, I think it was the most limiting A/C. All of them got off the ground and went 1000nm except the excel, the Gulfstreams had the best performance and could go to MCO.
