Well, the SJ30 can hardly be lumped into the VJL baby-jet group. It's a 14,000 lb, 2500 nm mach .80+ hot rod. It's ANYTHING but a VLJ.

With that being said, the SJ30 numbers are impressive. Saw one a month or so ago on the road. One of the test planes I presume but it was painted and appeared to have an interior in it.

If I were going to by a small jet, that's the one I would get. The VLJ's are in a completely different class targeted to owners of small and medium twins. Those folks wont buy this jet, nor should they.

I think the Phenom is just an idea right now, but I don't think it will compete with the SJ30. Except maybe on price...but you get what you pay for.

I just called both. S.S. will get back to me, Embraer said the Phenom 300 is 6.65M..first delivery is aug 2011. You're right..I dont think either one falls under the VLJ category.

Yeah, I wouldn't consider a VLJ...to limiting for what I would want a jet to do. Heck, most will have a hard time making FL non-stop in the winter from up north. But again, these tiny jets are going after a completely different market, and I think they'll do pretty well.

I'd love to get a demo in an SJ.

I was in this plane at NBAA. Very tight cabin. One of the big draw back on the plane is that you have to get a ladder to refuel the airplane, because the fill port is located on top of the Fuselage.

U referring to the SJ30? Yeah, the fueling thing is a pretty stupid idea. Manufacturers are supposed to be getting away from crap like that. I wouldn't want the line service dude dragging stuff across the fuselage.

"Flying" magazine had a pretty good write-up on the SJ a couple months ago. Pretty doggy plane down low; not a very high ROC, but does move very fast. The range & fuel consumption/mile are pretty amazing. The narrow-track landing gear looks like it might be a bit squirrelly, though.

The phenom is the onlyone with a shot at making market. Big company with deep pockets and a distribution network. If you read between the lines in all of the recent reviews of the SJ-30 is that it's not the real deal. Still have no concrete plans to make it from what i understand. Lots of marketing and no real company or factory.

What I think is that too many people have reinvented the Lear 23 and Cessna has a huge jump on the market.

SJ30 is nothing more than pie in the sky ... BS in the sky. This airplane has been "almost" coming to the market place since 1991.

If you put a deposit on one of these you are fool. Just my .02.

Like someone else said, get a Cessna. A known and proven market performer unless you want to be the next Beech Starship owner ....
