Good morning,
I know you shoudn't choose an airline on bases, but I live in GSO and really want to be based at home. Which of the two would be better from that standpoint? Also, what other airlines would be an easy commute? Thanks.

CHQ GSO is pretty senior, although quite a few FO's have gone to uprade recently. I don't know how (or if) they intend to replace the ones that left. Bases are assigned during training based on seniority within your class (oldest to youngest) You will not be assigned a base until well into training so it will be a gamble.

No problem on bases being a part of your criteria for an airline...Gotta go with what's right for you...good luck.

Being GSO based is a little bit of a risk because of it really being an outstation base for both airlines. But I would say it has a greater chance of closing as a CHQ base seeing as how they like to close a base about every 6 months or so. Having said all that, being home based is really great though. It all depends on how much you want to stay there.

Thanks,
How many crews are based at Gso for each carrier? There seems to be alot of negative talk about Comair and chq keeps growing. Who has the best schedules?

DOGTIRED, I you really want to be based in GSO go ahead and go for CHQ. However, and take this with a grain of salt as my home base MCO just closed, CHQ will eventually close GSO. If you get it awarded you will enjoy being based where you live for a while but eventually it will close.

CMR seems to not have that itchy trigger finger as much as CHQ does for opening and closing bases.

chq is growing because they are cheaper, my opinion is when comair gets the bk contract shoved down their throats, chq will be looking at shrinking while the cheaper carrier will grow and the race to the bottom will continue
