Thanks for the heads up R2D2. You can advise your counterpart 3-CPO (alias GL) that the money is now available to fix his CPU that will correct all the de javu repetitive comments on this drawnout soap opera.

I would keep an eye on future meetings between DL creditors and NWA creditors about a possible merger. Both stand to do much better than the stand alone plans that will be presented to the BK judges. The big issue as always will be who will run the company? Oh I forgot, the CEO for NWA wants to retire to his lake home.:)

A Star Wars theme? C'mon. I thought you were more of a Trekkie, most likely a Klingon, circling Uranus. :)

Bye Bye--General Lee

Nope.

Congrats to all the US/AWA employees as well is the way I see it. Now our fearless leader can get back to minding the store.

U.S. Air could still take part in airline-industry consolidation, according to analysts at Bear Stearns.
"We don't think the M&A story is over," analyst David Strine wrote in a note to investors. "There are other, more willing players -- e.g. United (UAUA : - that could also be a potential partner for [U.S. Airways]."

Bye Bye--General Lee

Look for Parker to bid for NWA and match them up with the East US ops to Europe and AWA's strong feed to NWA's Pacific Routes. Potential for him to outbid Delta for NWA since now he's got a big stack of cash and might wave it in front of NWA and be able to offer more to NWA creditors than DL can. Nobody really knows for sure how serious DL was anyway about NWA. Mostly smoke and that will evaporate as time goes by. DL will be focused on getting out of Bankruptcy and proving to thier creditors that they did in fact get the best deal by stalling US. Lots of potential lawsuits if DL does not get it right with thier creditors as they emerge since they by-passed the US offer. I doubt Parker will sit idly by -- he's convinced consolidation is the way to go and look for a run at NWA since they are still in bankruptcy. Sooner rather than later is my guess.

I'd be surprised if he wanted to touch the "hostile takeover stove" again anytime soon. Now if he can find a willing partner, who knows? These last couple months had to be tough for him. On yesterday conference call Parker said if the DL deal did not go through there probably wouldn't be consolidation until the next downturn.

Dear US Airways Employees,

We received word earlier today that Delta’s Official Unsecured Creditors’ Committee would not be able to meet our demands by the Feb. 1, 2007 deadline. As a result, we have withdrawn our offer to merge with Delta Air Lines. While we are disappointed that the Committee has chosen to ignore its fiduciary obligation to Delta’s creditors, we are excited about our future and proud of our team’s performance during this process.

As a standalone carrier, we have a tremendous future ahead of us. As announced yesterday, we earned over $500 million (excluding special charges) in 2006 and will cut profit sharing checks later this quarter. We expect an even better 2007 and I look forward to working with all of you to make US Airways an even better airline than it is today.

We have the best team in the business, from our operations team to all of the support and administrative staff. We’re improving on customer service measures, bringing back furloughed employees and hiring new members to our team. Our future is bright.

In closing, I couldn’t be more proud of the professionalism that US Airways employees showed since announcing our proposal over two months ago. Thanks for all your support and encouragement you gave our team during this process. Let’s focus on running the best airline we can and have a great 2007. As always, thanks, too, for taking care of our customers.

Doug Parker

1) Just for management:uzi:
2) Yep. Like ALL the US Air pilots that showed up for the hearing last week....

Especially the last 72 hours.

Let's see here, to recap:

The D.C. fiasco (nuff said).

DAL told him with even more vehemence to p*ss right off.

They're looking at hearings to force U to take back over their $5 Billion in pensions.

Somehow I think the smartest thing Doug could do right now is go crawl in a hole and wait for someone ELSE to announce a merger and take the heat off of him.
