This is actually a 2 part question: 1. How many out there are getting an interview/ hired with no type rating? I've heard in the past about 80% of interviewee's had the type...does this stat still seem about right?
2. Those that were actually lucky enough to get a job offer without the type, how did you answer the question "...so why didn't you get a type rating?" in the interview?
Thanks for the replies in advance.

1. When I interviewed only 18% had the type from my group. I also know lots of guys who have interviewed without the type from my previous employer.

2. This question was not asked to me, nor to anyone that I know of.

I think having the type will only get you called to the interview faster, other than that it means nothing from a competitive basis. If you get the job, you'll probably wish you already had it though just to get to class faster, and thus begin accruing seniority.

Good luck to you.

I have a lot of friends from my former job who have interviewed recently.

Of the ones that did not have the type, I don't think any were asked why not.

Fellas,
Thanks for the replies. That's refreshing news that more people are getting a chance to interview withouth a type.
Charlie, just out of curiosity, do you know how many got a job offer out of your interview date? Thanks again.

I have another question about geting the interview call. What is the average total time of perspective interviewe's. Also how much total PIC turbine. What's a cracker have to do to get the interview?

From experience...Southwest does not ask unfair questions. If you are there interviewing, they want to know about YOU personally. They wouldn't ask trick questions.

Just my very unscientific survey of my friends who've interviewed lately seems like (for the non typed regional guys anyway) around 5000 to 6000 total with 2500PIC seems about average. I know 2 who were called with 1500 or less PIC, but both had the type.

3 out of 4 people hired from my interview group in November were typed. Don't know if this is the norm or not...

Just tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Try to put that "positive spin" on it, but the interviewers have state-of-the-art B.S. detectors.

I got on without the type. They asked me in the interview if i had the type. I told them the truth, I didn't have the type but i put a deposit down at hp and will going shortly.

Dazed...you will get credit for the military time so don't freak out about the 5-6000 hour issue. The PIC time on the other hand need to be up high to be somewhat competative. It is your personality that will get you the job...not the time.

3 out of 22 hired in my group, a long time ago.

Red Dog,
I'm sure a lot of turbine PIC time doesn't hurt, but I've been seeing several friends (with the type!) getting hired with barely 1300 PIC.
