As much as I'd hate to see these guys come online, I have to admit the video is pretty impressive. I'd certainly be willing to pay a few dollars more simply for the plug-in at every seat.

Nauseating indeed. A CEO who has suddenly realized that once in a while one is forced to abide by the laws of this country. Must suck to have to follow the rules. Latest edition of Air Line Pilot outlines the DOT's response to the Virgin bid, they got trounced n a number of levels. Hedgefunds cobbled together with foreign capital and partners, foreign board members and board members essentially under foreign control, foreign branding, influence and control by the Virgin Group, etc.

That little Tube video was view over 46000 times. They will fly, it's business.

Run away, run away!

Admit it, you who want VA to fail simply fear competition.

What's funny is that if they are going into it as a Low Coast Carrier, most of the people they will be carrying will have no clue how to work that stuff! And after 6 months half of the systems will be MEL'ed!! Scratched, broken, twisted!!! Those things will be a hand full to maintain!!

Gotta give it too them!! Europeans are very inovative!!

We need to start a site at let-va-fly-away.com

In the end, fancy seats with all sorts of plugs, etc, don't bring the customers. Can you picture 100 computer cables all over the cabin floor. Can you imagine getting tangled in them during an Evac? A new computer battery has about a 3-4 hour life. Much easier to me.

The very fact that they had to start a website to gain support, should tell us all we need to know.

If VA is allowed to start up, we have opened a can of worms in our country and every foreign carrier will quickly follow, and will be approved.

What I don't want is yet another LLC which will lower industry wages more. The Chautauqua's (in the day), the MESAs (today), JBLU wages, etc..... Pilots are our own worst enemies.

Go hop on PPRUNE and check up on a BA 767 flight crewmember salary...I think that cabatoge is coming but the longer we can keep US pilots at the higher pay-scale, the better.

I'm all giddy about seatback TV's and a way to plug in my George Foreman grill on the 'deck, but this will set a precedent I don't think will benefit our cause in any way.

Where do you work?

I've got to know; where do you work that they let people have computers out during an evac?

As for the plugs at each seat - what a great idea. You may get 3-4 hours of battery life for that transcon, but have you got at the end? A dead computer. Ask you biz fliers what they'd rather have? A plug at the seat or hunt around for one at the business meeting?

Smart.

Actually this airlines operational costs are 12% less than SW per seat mile. Even with all that extra service.

This has got to be the funniest thing I have seen on this message board. A jb guy bashing VA.

You proved my point perfectly. You fear strong competition will force your company to run more profitably. If they fail to do that, one option will be to cut employee pay. Unless of course you make your company so successful that they increase your pay.

Sounds like Southwest, doesn't it?

Brand new batteries, yes! Average ones less than 2 hours!

What is wrong with healthy competition? Keeps them honest! Or are you afraid that JBU will lose the upcoming battle with them? Ever since "youtube" showed their product off, Neeleman wants to see their documents all of a sudden and now has joined the legacy carriers in trying to prevent them from starting. Nothing wrong with pressure on DN to get JBU a good international ally for mutual feed, upgrade the product and finally police the appearance standards and professionalism of its crewmembers.

What nobody wants is additional seats in an already saturated industry. Especially with a foreign-run company, and particularly when they would be paying their pilots crap. I work for an efficient, competitive airline where the wages are already too low. We will be changing that over the next few years, but the last thing I want to see is a bunch of pilots willing to fly an A320 for RJ wages undercutting our efforts.

"Strong competition"???

Give me a break. More like nuisance pricing that will effect the profitability of one of our route segments for the several months it will take us to undercut them (you?) out of existence.

Not that you're ever going to see VA flying revenue anyway.

Nothing Fred Greed does can be good for the industry.

Nope, Southwest's Pilots are compensated well and my company is running very efficiently these days. More so than ever. But when a start up starts paying their pilots $50/hr and then says that a 20 year pilots pay should be the same, that's where we run into problems. JBLU is just beginning to see this now and their most senior DOH is (don't quote me on this) I'm guessing around 7-8 years.

I've learned that profits to the airline do NOT affect employee wages. 20 years ago a CEO on average was paid 4X his/her highest employees salary. Guess what it is now...400X. Yup. Management has been running to the bank. Up until about 7 years ago, you could live on an airline salary. Thanks to the influx of RJs and LLCs, that salary has been hammered back more than 40% in some places.

Long live capitalism, but bring back regulation.

Kinda hard to know the true operating cost....when they aren't operating.

And while we're at it you can add JB to that website too.

Same concept, different time.

Didn't B6 serve as a convenient lifeboat for you between the time that UA kicked you to the curb till this year where they welcomed you back with open arms? If so, I think it makes your comment here ring hollow.
