Just a few questions for some of you SkyWest guys and gals.

The upgrade on the E-120 is a few months right now. Do you think it will stay that way for a few more? Say long enough for a guy getting hired right now to upgrade in 6 or so?

I saw on another website that the junior base is SFO. What other bases are junior for Capt.’s?

For anyone who lives around those bases what does it cost for a reasonably safe apartment? I have looked around on line for this stuff and it is a lot of info to consider when I don’t know what bases are likely for a new Capt.

I have also read that SkyWest terminates initial Capt. failures. Does this mean that if you blow an approach on your ride that you go home or do they give you another ride? I guess that I am asking is do you have more than one chance to pass before they decide to cut you?

I will be sending my app. in within a week and heading for an up coming open house. I figure that I can always turn down the job and stay at Mesa if they hire me if I decide that it is not for me. Any advice for the interview?

I read on the SkyWest website that if you get the E-120 you will be sent to a Flight Training Device for a week. So does this mean that you get less level D time or what? Any info you have about that would be greatly appreciated.

I can't answer your first couple of questions.

I can tell you that you need not worry about the "up or out" policy during initial upgrade. If you're working hard and have a good attitude, the company will do whatever it takes to get you through training. Blowing an approach on your checkride is not going to get you fired. So, I wouldn't sweat it.

On the EMB-120, you'll get 3 FTD sessions in Fresno. Then, they'll send you to the Flight Safety at Long Beach, CA, for 5 full-motion simulator sessions. At least that's the way it was when I was a new-hire. Who knows, maybe they've changed things a bit to save some money!?

Good luck!

You also take the check ride in both the sim and the actual airplane, I think you get one flight in the airplane before the airplane check ride.
Good Luck

FDAH is correct. When you upgrade, you get a prep ride in the airplane and then a day or two later you take your airplane checkride and get your ATP certificate.

I would expect EMB upgrade to stay at or below 6 months in 2007.

SFO looks very junior for FOs right now, but it is a VERY small reserve base (3 crews) so that could change instantly. FAT is usually the junior base in Cali.

You will be glad you left mesa, it is like night and day.

Right now there are 90 people on the EMB upgrade bid. I think there planning on upgrading 10 a month right now. So you can do the math. However, plans seem to change all the time.

1. yes
2.EMB=FAT CRJ=ORD, MKE for CAPTs
3. whatever you are willing to pay
4.You get 3 chances on your initial upgrade, with extra training between the first and second failure. If your attitude is good probably more.
5. come prepared to answer technical questions on the CRJ
6. 2 days FTD, 4 sim sessions and a checkride. The sim is level C=terrible visuals and motion is not as precise.

This is only if you fly the CRJ right...not say a small POS piston twin?

To answer the last question, I was only asked about the plane I was flying, which happened to be a POS twin.

Rents in Fresno are pretty cheap, Palm Springs a little more, costal CA is pretty insane but SBP would probably be the most reasonable. The worst is probably SBA where a 1 bedroom will be $1200/mo minimum.

You can get a nice 1 bedroom apt. in FAT city for around $690-$800 a month in a safe area. If you get hired and end up there, stay north of Shaw Ave. You will be about 15 minutes from the airport. Good luck.

Not to hijack... but I got a question regarding show times in domicile. What domiciles if any are more commuter friendly? I will be out of MCI so ORD and DEN should be simple. Just wondering if they have plenty of 11am-2pm shows. Thanks in advance.

MKE might be a good choice for you too

Don't worry about the up or out policy, both Baze and I made it...
How's that CRJ 1280 treating you now, bra?

Mookie

Most junior EMB upgrade is 3/06. Dont expect upgrade in 6 months if hired today- there are ALOT of people already in line.

is it still a year until you can switch to the jet? (I only ask because I want a ORD base not because I have shiny jet syndrome

So from what you guys are saying it will be a year or so right?

Maybe a silly question but here goes anyway. What aircraft are you going to operate for Midwest? Props or Jets? Anyone have the break down? Anyone know a start date? Just curious because if it is props the upgrade may come real fast.

Thank you for your responses and please keep them coming!
