Not flamebait at all - dead serious question as UA is in the family.

What do the ALPA guys think they are going to accomplish with this FIN (Fix it Now) campaign? I cannot see any reason that mgt will consider changing a thing before the contract opens.

My opinion: Having pizza and beer at the DEN Doubletree and getting a bunch of pilots to agree about which things suck isn't gonna fix anything. I think this is just an effort to look like they are doing something in order to fend off the UPA push. The bottom line is UA ALPA was dumb enough to sign this piece of crap through 2009 (should have tried for early opener provisions). FIN looks like damage control PR to me.

Well I think they are a little nervous about the UPA push. I doubt however that UPA will be successful with their campaign long term...I could be wrong though. My take is this. The contract will not be opened early...mgmt wants their cake and they are eating it too. The FIN campaign is to promote pilot solidarity and UA ALPA has a lot to make amends for. Time to get the troops together and the sooner the better. 2009 may make 2000 look pretty mild because I know that a lot of guys feel betrayed in more ways than one. Too much was given up and management has exploited that to the fullest. The downward slope has got to stop and I'm willing to walk if it doesn't.

I was thinking the same thing about the FIN thing. The only guys that will show up will be the guys who already "get it" and understand how to exert pressure on a company to get contractual/QOL items "changed" before '09. But now, I'm not sure. I think if we can get guys/gals to show up for this thing and get the message out to the press and to our fellow UAL pilots that perhaps they shouldn't be "helping" the company so much, we might be able to get something for our troubles. I guess we'll find out in the up and coming weeks, perhaps months, if this FIN thing actually accomplishes anything.
