Just wondering if anyone knows, or have even heard if Airnet was considering opening any bases in the Long Island NY or the Newburgh NY areas? I would definitely consider becoming a lifer at that point. (providing I get a job with them).:rolleyes:
 
Unless something has changed in a very drastic way during the last 4 months or so, I think the closest you're going to get to Long Island would be the base at Teterboro.
 
Be willing to live anywhere for a year or lie through your teeth if you want the interview. PS there is only 1 Lear PIC in TEB and he's definitely a lifer.

I think if he wants to live in the New York area he probably only needs to be able to live somewhere else for 3 months at the most. At least for the props. If you lie during your interview it will probably come up in training.
 
I have to say 3 months is better than a 1 year, but then again who's to know. I am definetely a fan of airnet and have been following this company since US check days. I'd love to eventually work for the company and hope to one fine day. Again having the house, wife and newborn at home puts some time on for extra planning but where there's a will. Thank you for the input gentlemen and would always appreciate any input you have.
 
Oh, and by the way Chickenwolf looking at your type ratings, you wouldn't happen to be that one lifer at TEB on the Lear?
 
Bases

Not to hijack the thread, but since we are talking about bases, what would the chances of a new hire getting BHM, BNA, or MEM be? How long would the wait be for one of these bases after getting hired in your opinion?

Additionally, do all new hires go to the Baron or do some get the Caravan? Thank you in advance.
 
All initial's goto the Baron. Every base except for TEB is luck of the draw. TEB you can pretty be assured of getting within 3 weeks.

No, because ridgewood queens is part of nyc! I recently applied to airnet and was called a day after I applied. I guess they need pilots, so if your willing to move then i'm sure it is a great job. I wanted to be hired into teb, they couldn't provide that so I declined the interview.
 
Good call PHXFLYR. Good ol' Ridgewood Queens NY. Your the 1st person to know of it. I now live out east in Suffolk County Long Island, Ridgewood at heart though (born and raised), thats why I've been asking about the possibility of a base opening out east. All the same though I would probably take anything handed to me in the tri-state area.
 
Dude, I cant believe you turned down an interview because they wouldn't guarantee you TEB. That has to be our most junior base!

Being completely unaware of how life is on Long Island, but knowing how geographically close it is, what way would one get to CT from there and how long would it take? Reason I ask is becuase of the base at BDL, there's at least 2 props there (or at least there were 4 months ago).

i have a job right now flying a jet, i'd go back to a prop but only if i didn't have to move.

I've driven to HFD before just south of BDL. It had taken a little over 2 hours by means of a ferry through Bridgeport, CT. Not bad but also not an everyday commute. I would probably have to move a bit closer at that point.

wow you must be a really good listener, props are for boats! I love how someone asks me a question, I give them my reason and some pole smoker tries to turn it into me pounding my chest!

I was born in Jamaica, NY. We lived in Ridgewood until I was 4. My grandfather and I would take walks down Fresh Pond Road and Myrtle Avenue and stop in all the little hardware stores and five and dime toy stores.About that time my parents moved out to Suffolk County , where I grew up (?) .Learned to fly out at ISP and instructed out of FRG in the early 80's (Flightways of Long Island , a Piper dealership that is now part of the Million Air chain.) Great times growing up there ,but left in 1988. Way too expensive for this perpetullay broke aviator!!:D Anyway, good luck with your flying endeavors..and thanks for the stroll down memory lane:)

You know this is getting funny. I grew up on Long Island and flew Be99's out of BDL for Bar Harbor Airlines (the nucleus if you will of today's Continental Express out of EWR) in the mid-80's . I lived in a town 10 miles of the Deer Park VOR and drove to BDL once a week. It took 3 1/2 to 4 hrs depending on traffic using the Long Island Expressway (affectionately known by all who travel it as "The Worlds Largest Parking Lot") and the Throgs Neck Bridge. Tried the ferry a few times and while it was nice,I found it really didn't cut down on the amount of time it took to make the trip. Anyway,hope this info helps answer your question!

I'm still in training as of now going about my CFI at FRG and just purchased a house in East Northport with the wifee. Hopefully with some luck I'll follow in some of your footsteps.

Hey,good luck to you! It's been a fun ride with quite a few anxious moments,but I gotta say I still like going to work in the morning and I guess that's what counts. What FBO are you doing your CFI training at? Let us know how you make out. "Give my regards to Broadway"

frg is a great airport to learn at. (besides the delays) if you are smart, you will learn the best times to fly.. i just had to chime in because i leared at farmingdale as well...

frightways, wow that brings up some memories..

I always thought the congestion at FRG, was and still is always a plus as far as training goes, as opposed to open land and no one around for miles. Communications, traffic watch, procedures, SIDs, DPs, Actual holds, etc.. The weather conditions sure as hell are not the prettiest days in the world. Just yesterday my flaps froze down on a 172 RG. Good experiences like this lead to better piloting. I hope.:rolleyes: The N***AV planes at Flightways had eventually sold off. A majority to a company called CTL. A company notorious for emergency landings of its planes on the beach. At least it used to be. Hope to see you all in the field one day and fill you in on the old neighborhoods.
