Who got the the call today, Dec. 22, letting you know that you will work a normal day, Dec. 23? What BS. I think I am feeling sick, again!

Anyone who thinks they are going to work a normal day on the last day (non-Sunday) before Christmas, shouldn't be in this business.
 
When the change comes the day before? Hell ya! Waiting to see what the pay will be. Oh, I already know. Standard day rate. Late.
 
We were told weeks in advance to plan on it. Most of the trips are out & backs, too. 24 hours from now, peak will be no more and the celebrating will begin... :beer:
 
No! Not in the vocab for AMF. Just mad that we as a base found out today. Dispatch just let me know that it will be a half day. Makes things a little better. Not much, but a bit. Fly safe tonight.
 
Last year I was done by 10 in the AM. That was nice, still sucked to work on Sat. and x-mas eve.
 
10 a.m. not real bad. I will get back around 2p.m. Long legs! Oh well. Last year no complaints. The schedule was printed.
 
Consider the customer and be thankful they gave you 24 hours to fume about it. That's pretty good for them. Pretty soon you just learn to quit being surprised by anything they do. Hell, if they showed up with the cans on fire and wanted to load the boxes by hiking them between their legs it wouldn't be a huge shock. Entertaining, but not overly surprising.

Wasn't it posted on the schedule at your base? We were told to expect a normal day weeks ago and kind of assumed it anyways.

I agree freight pilots should be expected to work hard during this season, and anyone involved in freight has. But if it is worth UPS and Ameriflight's effort to be working on Xmas eve, shouldn't it be worth the pilot's time also?

After 2 hard weeks of work, and weather, being expected to work 7 days a week and Xmas eve is rough. Most pilots are assuming no OT for the extra effort. At 2X or 3X pay there may even be volunteers for this unwelcome task.

I am fortunate as a bank run person I was not asked to work this weekend, but when I walked into a room of UPS run pilots the mood was foul. My good luck runs out though when I have to be back to work on Tuesday AM while the UPS run pilots get to sleep in. I'll be glad when peak is over so some seasonal cheer can return to the pilot lounge.
 
Went in at 6.15am, hung around for about an hour, then the UPS Politburo decreed I shall do a MFR out and back. Done by 11.45am-thank you Lord!

In reference to the original poster, when it comes to peak and UPS, expect the unexpected, working the Saturday before Christmas is a given!
 
I find it hard to believe that anyone will actually fly tomorrow, being that it's Sunday and UPS isn't moving anything. I know nobody here is.

Today was light for me. Took a whopping 800 lbs. worth of procrastinators' gifts in a Metro, came back empty. Home a little after noon. Aside from blocking out 3 hours late because of a late jet, it was a pretty easy 9 units. I'm probably in the minority, but I didn't do any specials or double-trips the whole peak.

Glad it's over, though... Merry Christmas!

Funny, I haven't heard of anyone being asked to work Christmas eve this year. There was talk of possibly looking for volunteers if UPS would commit to how many stand-bys they may want. But as far as I know, they didn't ask.
 
First holiday season at AMF.

Then is must also be the first holiday season in any area of aviation except flight instructing.

I can't think of any other segment of aviation where you can EXPECT not to work on holidays. Cargo, airlines, fractionals, air ambulance, etc. The military takes holidays off if you are in a stateside, peace time assignment. But during a conflict or any overseas duty (including sea duty on ships) you can plan on working the holidays.

All I can say is get used to it or get out. I just plan to work holidays and if I don't, it's a treat.
 
If you read the original post, you will understand the whine. Did not say I was pissed at working the holiday. It was the fact that I was told the day before. No notice.

PS Buff. You seem to be a good source of info on other post's. Please don't fall into the FI negative spin.

And NO, this is not my first peak with AMF, nore first job out of instruction.
