Dog during training

My friend has 2 regional offers and I offered to watch his dog during training.. He thinks he might be able to get by, by keeping the dog with him at the hotel during indoc, etc. Any suggestions for him? Have you heard of people bringing pets to training before?

If the hotel doesn't have a problem with it, he'll probably be fine, but distracted at a time he needs full concentration.

If the hotel doesn't allow pets, it'll be the shortest indoc he'll ever go through.

Put the dog in kennel, that's what I did. Some are very luxurious and take good care of your dog; of course it depends on your budget.

This is a combination of what I'm doing, just a suggestion. (I live in base)

1) Get a non-pilot roommate who love dogs
2) Bid reserve and proffer same day trip if allowed
3) Get a petsitter
4) Doggie door if you live in a house

What's wrong with that? I say bring the crittur; it might graduate top of the class and be better company in the cockpit...not to mention practice better -erm- "personal hygiene".

Just have him tell everyone that he is legally blind and that it is a seeing eye dog. Then he can take it to the hotel, class, sim, etc. with all the protections of the American's With Disabilities Act.

Dogs are part of the new cockpit crew concept. Pilot feeds the dog and dog bites the pilot if he tries to touch anything. It's an integral part of flight training. Bring him along.

After a day in groundschool you need an hour or so to let your mind just vegetate. Taking Rover for a walk sounds like a great way to accomplish just that. Of course the practicality of the concept is somewhat dependent on the dog's personality. A very high-energy breed will cause problems, one way or another. A GSP ain't a great idea, an old sleepy spaniel would do just fine.
