Are they still going ahead with it? Could this affect the IRO trips of others down to the islands?

According to Neeleman, the FAA wants JB to pursue the exemption since we've reduced a detailed data set during our 'trial runs'. The results supposedly reinforce the 'duty day' concepts vs. flight time limitations.

Either way, they will implement whatever they want after they spin it to death.

We were asked what we thought about it at the FLL meeting, but it was pointed out to them that we had no idea what exactly they were proposing and needed to know how that was going to effect the rest of the schedules. They did not have any clear information to share on how it would impact the rest of the pilots not flying them and the discussion sort of ended there.

They also couldn't answer the question about morning westbounds, day sleeps and red-eye returns under the AMP study. I think we're waiting to hear more particulars before we make a decision to back or oppose it.

I would rather deadhead in the back, preferably crammed into a middle seat, to the west coast and then operate the return flight. This must prove far more restful than reclining up front. We do this right? :puke:

I listened to the LGB call today. It sounded to me like DN wanted to go the route of ICAO/CANADA and the Duty Time only regs. He said something along the lines of "why should a pilot just drop dead after they hit a certain block hour threshold? If the science supports flying within duty times then that's what we'll do." Someone in the crowd mentioned XCon turns with weather on the return and DN stated that the XCon turns would be a very small benefit to the exemption since there won't be many pairings. He also said something about increased productivity but the conference call audio was very poor.

Trans con turns.

I'm afraid in the near future they will receive the 8 hour flight time exemption from the FAA. For other 121 pax carriers to remain competitive they will also seek the same waiver. Then the 121 supplemental carriers will follow. This is a Pandora's box we don't want to open. It's a shame management didn't consult most of the line pilots.
