Age 65 now dead for the 109th Congress

Subject: FY07 appropriations

As expected, the Senate at midnight tonight (Friday) followed the House in approving a continuing resolution to keep most of the federal government operating at FY06 spending levels until February 15. The CR applies to departments and agencies covered by the nine FY07 appropriations bills that did not get passed. The only departments that were funded anew for FY07 are defense
and homeland security.

The federal FY07 fiscal year began October 1 and runs through next September 30. The new, Democrat-controlled Congress convenes January 4.


With the passing of a CR through February of 07, that guarantees that the Senate will not bring HR 5576, a transportation appropriations bill with the text of S 65 attached to it, to the floor for a vote. It also means that the GOP controlled Senate will not try to get an omnibus appropriations bill passed before the 109th Congress adjourns.

Let's see what the 110th brings. I'm expecting a much less friendly Congress for the pro-change crowd.

I just went to thomas.loc.gov. The 109th Congress adjourned at ~4AM Saturday.
The next meeting of Congress will be 4 Jan when the 110th Congress convenes. With the adjournment of the 109th, all bills from the 109th died, including S 65, the Akaka Amendment, and all appropriations bills.

The difference will be all the guys pushing for it now, say the 58-59 year olds will be screaming bloody murder that they won't be able to sue to get their jobs and old seniority back...the same guys now who giddily throw the retirees under the bus. Throw them under the bus? When they signed up to be a 121 pilot, they knew that at 60 they expired. All the fractionals are hiring if they love aviation so much.

I don't know about WAY pay 65. The DC-10 is shrinking (plus from the looks of how many of your ilk are there, I don't know if you'll want to be on A reserve) and the 727 is going away pretty soon with the advent of the 75. You may get a few years on the back of the Boeing, but I'm guessing all our 3 man airplanes are gone before you turn 65.

Just a guess.

Go for the 727FE. I did that for 6 months and couldn't take it any longer.

Really? I did it for over 6 YEARS and was happy as a clam. That's because hiring had stopped and pilots at other airlines were getting furloughed. If you need a job, Jurassic Jet Plumber looks pretty good.
