GA Senator Johnny Isakson gets involved with DL/US

The carrier also has a powerful Senate ally in Georgia Republican Johnny Isakson.
Isakson said in an interview with Reuters that he met with Grinstein this week and has also discussed the US Airways proposal with Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez and White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten. Isakson said he does not expect the White House to get involved, but he said that he expressed concern to Gonzalez about overlapping routes and a potential loss of competition and service to small communities if the merger moved forward. Isakson said he would also reach out to relevant committee chairmen for commerce and judiciary affairs.

"They've paid a tremendous price and they're ready to exit," Isakson said of Delta's intention to leave bankruptcy on its own.
Antitrust experts say the merger bid, if Delta agrees to it, would receive close antitrust scrutiny. Delta plans to submit its own reorganization plan to creditors this month.
Delta's pilots' union on Tuesday "denounced" the bid, saying a US Airways presentation about the offer last week revealed significant conflicts with their contract.

The Air Line Pilots Association is on the nine-member official committee of Delta's unsecured creditors.

Thank Gawd Parker stated in every paper in the Country today that if DL management doesn't like it, he WON'T fight for DL. I can't believe he said that.....

dude...?

General. I think we all know where you stand on this issue. Take a break man you are starting to look desparate to prove your point. Most if not all pilots at US and DAL do not want this so who are you trying to convince this merger is bad juju?

General,
Don't you think Parker made a smart move, What he stated in the USA Today sounds better than a "hostil take over". Meaning that Parker might think the creditors well go with his plan, then the creditors well pressure DAL management to as well, Parker wins. Smart political move if you ask me!

I think Parkers statement was made to leave himself an out. If it doesn't go through, its not my fault kinda thing. I don't think it means he is backing off in any way.

Exactly. The QUOTE SEEN AROUND THE NATION WAS "PARKER WILL NOT FIGHT FOR DELTA TAKEOVER." That was the quote and headline. Will he live by it? People will ask questions otherwise.

Posted today in AZ times, Parker will fight for DL and expects the deal to go through, he says he was taken out of context in the USA Today article.

Well, OOOPS. Too bad everyone read it. He will have to continue back pedaling. His PR firm probably browned their collective shorts when they read that article. My friend in PHX said it was on the front page of the AZ Republic too. Too bad. He was taken out of context? It was a long statement, not a one word answer. Riiiiight. And of course he expects the deal to go through--the PR firm told him to say that. The Creditor Committee probably doesn't feel the same way.....And neither does Oberstar, nor the DOJ, but Parker does......
