Funny, but that was exactly how I reacted to the AWA/USAir merger announcement. I'm not too fond of mergers...

You're right about that. If this merger stuff keeps going I'm going to start sucking my thumb again and a straight jacket will be next.

Without those "facts" Flyer, you could have been a gone relic of deregulation....plain and simple...........sorry to confuse you with the TRUTH!!!

"Ya feel that Sting big boy????............that's Pride F-ing with ya"
Name that film....

But we're not, now;are we ? The film? Is it the one that your "starring in" in your avitar?

I haven't even read this thread in it's entirety... but let's put all the "Airline Pilot Genius Speculation" aside.

Here's the simple fact:

Out of the Blue will come the most ridiculous, non-sensical, illogical, arrangement/partnership/merger that none of us expect.

Such as:

- AA-TWA

- AWA-US

- AA-Reno

- SWA-Morris

- SWA-ATA

And on and on, and on, and on.

Speculate all you like. It's just a Line Pilot's point of view.

The goofy bastards that run the Airline Industry and the Banks see things from an entirely different perspective than any of us "Einsteins".

Mental Masturbation also causes Blindness.

Be careful out there...

4 out of those 5 were done for one reason only, to elliminate the competition. AWA/USAir was/is a merger that has trully used both sides to benifit the whole.

Excellent data but your JD rankings came out in June. The article I quoted compares US and DL using the most recent DOT statistics (September).

So what you're saying is their performance has gone down since the almighty JD Powers ratings were released? I'm confused...

The ATL runway closure in September might help ease your confusion as to why the DOT numbers went south in September.

BTW, DAL's performance numbers have improved considerably since the runway project was completed.

" This is Joe Kolshak with your weekly operational update for the week ending November 17th.

  • Well, since we last spoke to you on Friday, I think it’s safe to say that not much has changed with the seasonal weather challenges we continue to face throughout much of our system. Thunderstorms, gusty winds, low ceilings, and fog have once again proven to be the culprit for most of the airport delays and ATC initiatives that have dominated the Midwest and Eastern seaboard over the past several days.
  • And add to this mix high passenger loads - which are now hovering around the 80% mark, certainly a good thing - it would only seem logical that the week would be a disappointment operationally. Fortunately for us, that assumption proved wrong.
  • In fact, our performance week-over-week improved significantly in both D0 and A-14 -- ultimately, against our competitive set, placing us in first place for the week first in A-14, and in second place in D0.
  • Improvement like this in such unfavorable conditions is definitely a good news story, and further proof that the operational setbacks of the past few months have been, in deed, just temporary. More than anything though, it’s a testament to the great job each of you do daily in support of this airline. Please keep up the good work, it’s definitely paying off."
