Can anyone answer a couple of questions for a military guy thinking about Mesa Air Group?
1. How difficult would it be to get myself domiciled in PHX right away?
dang Near Impossible
How do they decide where your domicile will be?
It's decided by what equipment you are put into. You can go B1900 or CRJ, it's at "company discretion" They will put you where they want you and not where you need you. After that, you can bid via a "standing bid" system, when they award guys to phx, the most senior guy that wants it, gets it. Right now I think it is 9 months - 1 year to hold phx CRJ FO. THe Dash and CRJ are the only aircraft in phx.
2. How long will it take to upgrade?
Depends on the airplane again. B1900/Dash 8 are both less then a year, CRJ/ERJ are running 2-3 years for the junior domiciles (PHX is at the 6 year mark for CRJ CA)
Your best bet to get PHX would be the Dash would be my guess, though you will have to start out in the JFK system
It may take only 2-3 years to upgrade in the jets but it will feel like 10!
I though Row 3, Seats A-D in the RJ, was open as a domicile.
Oh, they're never gonna live this one down.I thought Row 3, Seats A-D in the RJ, was open as a domicile.
And the problem is that you will want to quit in less then a year. For the love of God, dont, I repeat dont go to Mesa, or at lest have your wife stitch you a nice quilt to cover up your purple piece of Mesa issued plywood. Go somewhere that at least treats you with a little bit of respect. It may take only 2-3 years to upgrade in the jets but it will feel like 10!
However...
Everybody expects USAir to fire mesa as soon as they can figure out how to do it.
When you say "everybody," are you referring to Mesa employees? USAir employees? The whole industry?
I can understand USAir being dissatisfied, but this is the first I've heard that they're looking to take their business elsewhere.
Right, I can see why they're not satisfied, I used to work contract services for America West, believe me I know. The question is: what's it going to take? Is someone going to have to outbid them (heaven forbid, the standards they would have to drop to), or will they pay more for a better quality regional?Talk to america west employees. Word on the street is that DP is VERY dissatisfied with mesa. Anyone who has anything to do with mesa ops should be able to see why. It sounds like not a question of if, but when. This topic is continually under discussion on mesahub.com

I'm in Vegas, enlighten me, who else flies USAir express back east? Republic, and who else?Look at some of the other regionals that USAir currently employs...I don't think that they will have a problem paying more for quality. That's what I'm hoping anyway.
