Just wondering if anyone else had problems with cass on USairways/America West. I tried to jump seat out of JFK tonight using the Cass. I was in uniform, & had all my id, passports etc. The capt gave me a hard time saying something about no digitial picture & a new policy they have. Far as I know my picture is up & its my passport photo. I also heard the problem could be a USairways glitch according to the gate agent. I usually ride Jetblue & many times in the cockpit and those guys have always been great to me. Just wondering if anyone had similar problems. Or was this one of those jerk capt's.

thanks! missed a day from work

The "glitch" is not being photo capable as a company.
On a side note, almost all the other airlines work!
Thank god for CASS!!!

Actually AA has been very good about communicating this problem to us. The TSA made one of their "out of no where" rule changes and caught most airlines by surprise. They suddenly decided all had to be able to display the ID photo on their terminal screen. Some airlines were ready. Some weren't. Continental is one who got caught with their pants down. They're out of CASS until they upgrade their computer screens. USAir too?

Other companys that aren't ready? Comments please.

If you are planning to jumpseat on Frontier out of PHL make sure you go to the TICKET COUNTER to get checked in.

For whatever reason the airport intranet doesn't allow us internet access from the gate to do the CASS verification. I know it sucks, but...

We love to have you along, but we need the verification from the ticket counter before you can ride the actual JS. If we have room in the back (yeha right!) you can go to the gate directly.

I think this goes for LAS too.

Sept 23rd was the TSA deadline for photos to be required for CASS. That means the ability to send and receive digital photos. After that date any airline with "green screens" cannot use the Cass system.
It is my understanding that the TSA was to review airlines with this problem on a case by case basis. I am not sure where LCC stands but as indicated by your problem I would assume that they are in this "unable to use CASS" boat.
Others that may have this problem are:
Alaska, ASA, Express Jet, Horizon, PSA, Piedmont, there are cargo operators out there too with similar issues.
Hope this helps?

CASS problems can be expedited by not allowing pilots from carriers that are not compliant into your flightdeck... Reciprocating agreement means bothways. Let a few of them miss their check-ins and bingo! New screens arrive. I know that some capts that commute are not going to leave another commuter at the gate to get the point accross but that is what it might take.

Um, is that supposed to be sarcastic? Seriously, I can't tell.

"Dear IT: I missed my commute. How much will it cost to retrofit every single green screen? Do you offer payroll deduct?"

We at Continental will still be able to accomodate offline jumpseaters in the cabin but not, as previously stated, in the cockpit. And yes this is due to some old computers at various stations. Hopefully it will be remedied soon.
